I kind of think they are trying to move a contract out or two to make room to meet Johnny and Mony's requests to fit under the cap. Wideman definitely needs to get moved, even if a pick needs to be added to get him out the door.

Gaudreau to me is a $7.5 million dollar player while Monahan is a $6 million dollar player.
Hopefully they meet in the middle and both sign for 8 years $6.75 million a year.

I like your suggestion of 6.75 per 8 years. You would think that would work for both sides.

To be fair Filip Forsberg signed 6x6. Extra 1.5M for the 2 extra years isn't crazy! Mite not be ideal for Johnny but it's still a great contract.

If you are re-signing a player from your own team, the max is 8 years. All other UFA players can only sign for a max of 7 years.
It was part of the incentive for talent retention written into the latest CBA.

Both players become UFAs at 25 and I don't see the Flames interested in any sort of bridge deal so the negotiations are probably around where the term lands between 6-8. The shorter the better for the players so they can cash in once more before they turn 30.

Easy to say as a fan, and while I'm sure they're great pals on and off the ice, unless he's a true saint the guy who's doing the heavy lifting (oh the irony) likely fails to see any reason to entertain that type of offer. It literally siphons future earnings from a top producer to another really really great player who happened to be there at the time. This is pro sports, not intramurals with participation ribbons. I'm sure they'll both receive handsome compensation that reflects a mix of their current contributions, expected potential, age and relative UFA status and also team goals and cap structure moving forward.
Also, just my opinion, a glaring risk is that even slightly overpaying one player with the intention of getting another on a slight bargain is not only a wash, but potentially makes the overpaid player harder to move down the road if required and could cause flexibility issues.
Not saying Money isn't worth 6.75, mind you, he may very well get that (I'd hope he signs for just slightly less), but I think even presenting Gaudreau with a long term contract offer with an AAV beginning with 6 is borderline insulting.
Pay your good players

Is this what you mean?
I think it would take extra 1.5 per year. So Forsberg at 6x6 becomes 8x 7.5
So 6 years cost you 36M. 8 years costs 60M

I don't know.. the amount of goals Tarasenko shells put puts him a notch above to this point. I think Gaudreau is just as good as Tarasenko but doesn't punch in as many goals. Even Forsberg has more goals in the last 2 years than Gaudreau.
I say split the difference and give him and extra 250 for an extra year (year more than Forsberg) 7x7. If you get that for 8 years even better.

Exactly.
Tarasenko is a perfect comparison, and you have to think it's exactly what Johnny's agent wants.
It's also what Johnny should get, so I don't understand the friggin' delay.
If we end up bridging Monahan and Johnny to short term 2-3 year deals, we will regret it.

Would love to know what the Flames are currently offering Gaudreau and Monahan.

Could be close to what the Flames are offering but that takes Gaudreau to 31. He's probably looking at way more per year at that term to compensate for a bad end-of-contract age or 5 years at similar cap to take him to 28 setting him up for another big contract.
Monahan will be 29/30 when his deal would end so he looking a year or two less term.
Both are probably looking for a signing bonus to be a bigger part of their compensation to protect against losing money in a potential 2020 labour dispute (another lockout).
Complicated deal where max term and typical AAV make up not being appealing to either player (agent).
