Big issue was probably if he was willing to sign with a WHL team or not. As a US born player, college more likely route and it looks like he was getting consideration for the USNTDP. Teams don't usually draft an American with such a high pick unless they know they can sign him.

His father and uncle played for Spokane so likely might have been his preferred choice of WHL teams. Agent/representatives might have even spread rumors that he wouldn't go to the WHL to help Spokane get him.

Craig Button's September rankings of the top 31 players for the 2017 drafthttp://www.tsn.ca/craig-s-list-nolan...rest-1.566071?
Think one of the most interesting things about his list right now is that he has multiple goaltenders who are in consideration for being 1st round picks in his players to watch list.

			McKenzie's top 10 for the 2017 draft:http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-s-pre-sea...draft-1.567410
Most interesting thing about his wirte up is that there appears to be a drop off at 7 based on the scouts he polled.

The interesting part to me was that they said Nolan Patrick might not have gone top 5 last year. This reinforces the idea we talked about last draft that guys like Tkachuk/Dubois may have gone top 3 in a weaker draft year.

I hope to not really be checking draft threads much at all this year. Tired of it.

Good timing I guess, as the Flames should be progressing this year to the point where they are no longer in conversation for a Top 5 pick. Chances are we still won't make the playoffs this year, but I don't see this team being bad enough to be a serious contender for a high draft pick.

Just a note that the All-American Prospects Game goes tonight, and is free on FASTHockey. Here are your lineups. Some good guys to catch as there are several first round contenders playing:http://futureconsiderations.ca/usa-h...-aapg-rosters/ |

I'm no scout but looking at the available highlights of Nolan Patrick, if he's projected to be 1st then I think this might be a super weak draft.
I just hope the Flames find a diamond no matter where they finish.

Has anyone seen him play? Just wondering why he's ranked 27th by ISS (You'd figure being 6'4ish with bloodlines would juice his ranking some).

Looks like a decent year for the Flames to draft a D to me.

That is frightening. Kids born in '99 are becoming adults...
Also saw a thing about how this is the first year that highschool freshmen are learning about 9/11 as an event that happened before their existence...

 Time is an unrelenting #####.
