I've been convinced for a while that Colborne is one more wrist/hand injury from being knocked out of the league. Brouwer, while earning a lot more, is also durable as hell. I can understand this direction.

I would totally have Colbourne back at that contract. This sucks.

But I think we need the roster spot for a younger guy.

Treliving was classy in talking about Colborne and he should have been. Colborne was a class act off the ice and a great ambassador for the city.

But I think it was all him sugaring up that the Flames just wanted to move on.

Yeah, that would have been a livable number. Maybe he felt slighted by not getting qualified and didn't give Treliving the chance to match.

Would have taken him back at that, don't like that decision by Treliving.

Well, Brad, I'm disappointed in you. How on EARTH could you not sign Joe Colborne if he goes for this tiny little contract? The Flames can easily afford this.

These little deals are what win championships. Bryan Rust helped the Pens win the Cup this year. You've let Byron, Colborne, and maybe Nakladal go, and replaced them with 4.5 million dollars of Troy Brouwer and 3 million of Deryk Engelland. You're good at trades, Brad, but your signings need some work.

looks like he left money on the table

News Update

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Told Colborne had other options for more money, but sees his opportunity with the Avalanche as his best fit.

Just "The Process" moving forward. make space fill holes/roles
I'll miss Joe but he just never quite took the next step in his development, so close to it though.
best of luck in Col.

I hadn't even considered that but good point. That wrist issue does appear to be chronic and he might never truly max never his ability.

We'll never know if Colborne was on board with signing for 2.5/2 with Calgary, it wouldn't be the first time a player signed for a better contract on a different team.

the flames couldn't afford this with Brouwer.

It was Joe or Troy.

I would've picked Joe. He's younger, has higher upside, and scored more points last year, for less money.

If it wasn't for that post deadline run I was more then ready to not qualify and walk away from Colborne. He played great after that and to end the season but enough way enough by that point. The vast majority of last season he skated around, did some okay board work but was basically a taller TJ Galliardi. Was it a game against the Bruins where they needed a goal to tie it and Colborne just skated around and around doing nothing? Frustrating.

If he's the player he was in the final 15, Colorado got a steal, but I doubt he is.

How can you guys say you prefer him over Brouwer when Brouwer hasn't even played a game for us yet? Yes Colby was less money but he didn't use his size to his advantage the way Brouwer has shown.

He's taken the Flames to arbitration before, I doubt he then would have signed here for that much. Especially after reading what Dreger said about leaving money on the table elsewhere.
