I think Reimer may have to accept a shorter term deal in hopes he can get an opportunity to steal a job and run with it leading to free agency again.

Very surprised that Zach Sawchenko wasn't drafted. Feel bad for the guy.
He's from Calgary, so if he ever gets to choose where to sign, I'm sure he'll consider here.

Burke confirmed this morning on the fan that the backup role is Ortio's to lose at camp. Mentioned his second half last season renewed management's faith in him.

Purely my own speculation, but my guess is they would add another if its a long-term play. I.e. don't get caught up on the idea of a "back up". I see it more if they can find that young, up and coming guy..

I'm not sold on Ortio...like the guy, but he'll have to step up and make himself bigger in net. It appears the back up role is his to lose, at least for now...I'd say he at least deserves to get a look alongside Elliott with a new coach/system/atmosphere

Given Elliot's history we're look for more than your usual backup. Probably will need to start 20-30 games. I'd be on board with Hutton. But also willing to give Ortio a shot to solidify himself as a capable #2 in the league.

Chad Johnson, Jhonas Enroth, Al Montoya and Carter Hutton are all significantly better than Ortio and UFAs, all of whom would probably consider us a good landing spot because of the potential for them to play a decent number of games.
Next Season:

Ortio will be 25
Johnson will be 30
Enroth will be 28
Montoya will be 32
Hutton will be 31

See which one is not even in his prime yet? Finding a backup isn't difficult. Developing a career backup into a starter, is difficult. So you have to go through growing pains with younger guys. Guys like Kipprusoff were just getting their feet wet at the same age.

The bosses need to get over themselves if true. Its over and done with. Move on.

Who cares? Ortio is never going to be much. Let him go, find a better option. It's amazing that he can still be so overrated by some some after the season he had.

That's good I suppose as they can save some salary in the event they can't move Wideman. A veteran backup would likely come in at the range of $2 million/season.

You're welcome. He was an average AHL goalie and before you spout "AHL all-star" that was based on 2 long winning streaks in which ADK have him a ton a run support.

Trelivings interview did not make me confident Ortio will be here. He said he earned the spot for now, implying he earned the open spot unless they find someone better. Brad's tone really did not indicate much faith in Ortio. It was a very wait and see answer and not a definite one. Brad does give away a lot if you pay attention closely.

He told us why Hartley was let go without saying it; puck possession and not connecting on a personal level with the players.
