I think after Matthews and Laine, Tkachuk is the most likely to play in the NHL next season.

I love his attitude and I am going to love seeing the Tkachuk name on the back of a Flames sweater. Back in the day, I used always make Keith Tkachuk a Flame in NHL 97.

I wonder how much the idea of playing with fellow American Gaudreau influenced his desire to play for the Flames.

Edmonton will play Puljujarvi whether he's ready or not. I would put him ahead of Tkachuk for sure in that regard.

He'll get the 9 game look no matter what.

I think he will be battling Shinkaruk for a spot on the Bennett line

If he is doing that, then he is going back to London.

Could just stick both of them alongside Sam and have the line be even more of a pest to play against.

Ye id try that for his first 9 games and see how they do together. If not to good you can easily just send him down

I will be pulling for him to make the team. But this definitely not a gimme roster spot. Has all the tools, right size and attitude. All depends on how his pre-season games go. I think the Flames give him a long look before deciding.

He knows what he needs to work on and seems very driven. I think he'll be like Monahan... Work on foot speed and put on some pounds this summer, make the team out of camp and score 15-20. One can dream...

Mackenzie or Button was saying last night on NBCSN, with the young talent the Flames have, he could easily be sheltered enough to make him a decent contributor next year. I think he'll stick personally.

IIRC Craig Conroy said a couple of months ago that Tkachuk was not NHL ready. He's got one year of OHL experience...let him season there a bit longer!

I agree. I think the Flames forward lines for next year should look roughly as follows:

Gaudreau-Monahan-???
Colborne-Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk-Bennett-Shinkaruk
Bouma-Stajan/Grant-Ferland

Backlunds line gets the hardest minutes, Monahan/Johnny get the second hardest and Bennett/Tkachuk/Shinkaruk get the most favourable matchups.

I also think now that we got Elliott at such a low cost we have cap space to pursue a RW to fill in on the top line. Or we could use an asset to bring in RW help, such as Hayes/Hartnell/Nichushkin/whoever.

I do recall Conroy saying Chychrun wasn't NHL ready but don't know if he said the same of Tkachuk?

Tkachuk is not ready. Give him every shot in camp, give him 9 games, then let him tear up the OHL.

Remember Landeskog's 50 point rookie season? That could be Tkachuk. Only reason to send him back to Junior is because you want to squeeze an extra year or two out of the ELC, which goes against Treliving/Burke's MO.

Based on what?

Craig Button considers him NHL ready:

Though I agree you give him every shot to earn it, and if he's not quite ready its an easy decision to send him back worry free.

i am confident the flames will make the best decision regarding his development unlike the oilers with their new toy. pooh will be on mcdavids line regardless how they play. if Tkachuk is ready he will earn a position on the team and if not we will do the best for his development and the flames future.

i think he makes it.

monahan made it, Bennett would have made it if he didn't require shoulder surgery...

Elite kids can make that jump...Tkachuk has been thinking like a pro for a long time as a result of his dad. I think that mentally, he's ready to make the jump... and physically, he can handle the grind...

but whatever is the best.
