That's $49 million or 7/year, which is probably where I think Lucic is going to come in. Let Vancouver shackle themselves to that.
I haven't followed him enough to know his skill set, I understand the intangibles he would bring but do you think he gets Tarasenko type money? I assumed he would be signed for a 5 to 6 year deal in the 30 to 35 range and thought that would be too much for us. I guess I am out of touch.

guys on fan made interesting point this AM. If oilers are indeed in on Lucic and end up getting him, would it not be vital to use the 4th overall to either trade for a dman or use the pick (or even trade down a bit) to grab a dman?

I think GM's are smarting up these days so while it is possible Lucic sees a 50 million deal I'm not so sure its a guarantee. A 5 year deal at like a 6 million tag seems possible to me. Maybe that's me subconsciously hoping we can swing something like that but not so sure he sees some monster contract. I suppose all it takes is one GM though.

Lucic would be the exact beast we need in our top 6.
Lucic at 6 years and 6M
Hartnel at 3 years and 4.75 and access to Puljujarvi

Not even close for me. Hartnell down!

Lucic-Bennett-Pribyl

Would be tough to play against for sure, I am a bit excited to see Pribyl play, he looks like he uses his size well, maybe not extremely physical but cycles well and protects pucks. Line might cause mayhem with 1 minute shifts down low in opposing end.

Did you see the contract for Yandle? I do not believe GM's are getting any smarter. Look at Benning he absolutely has to get the Canucks back in the playoff mix. I wouldn't be shocked to see him buy out Higgins and Burrows so he can throw 6-7 year big money deals to Lucic and Eriksson.

If the Canucks add those 2 players in free agency they will be a playoff threat but will just make the long rebuild back to cup contenders that much longer and difficult to achieve.

a great power play would help reduce teams taking marginal penalties against us.

The Flames pp was actually better than average after Dec last season.

Add the @NHLFlames as a strong possible destination for Lucic as well. Hearing lots of interest there as well. #nhldraft
Well that's interesting

I know we can all be scared of the potential contract Lucic will get...but how perfect is this line:

Lucic - Monahan - Gaudreau

Worst part is they still need to fit in 2 (or maybe even 3 depending on how you see Sekera) top 4 defencemen who will also need big deals.

They could go for Lucic but I think it would be pretty foolish long term, especially since although Gazdic is a plylon, they've added Maroon and Kassian who can both play a role and keep other teams honest.

Vancouver seems way more likely to me. I bet about $6.5x6 or maybe even 7. Hope the Flames stay well away.
They have 4 F 2 D and a G signed the year McDavid's ELC is done. Tough to predict how their cap situation will look. With Pouliot and Eberle being 2 of those forwards with 1 year remaining.
