Doesn't make any sense. There is a fairly decent chance Brown is on Vancouver's radar, and that alone makes a pick swap between Calgary and Columbus very problematic if their reason for doing it is because of Brown.
Nope, just got off the phone with Benning- He says it's all good. Says they don't want Brown, so proceed as planned.

If you're Culumbus and running a professional sports team you don't make amateur moves like passing on an elite talent in one of the Fins for a big project centre. Let's remember that John Davidson is involved with the team and would never let a disaster in the making happen on his watch.

I've said several times I don't see them moving the third overall for anything short of a massive over-payment.

The post you quoted was just questioning the logic of those who believe they're hard after Brown. Even if that were true (and I don't think it is) the chance of Vancouver taking their player before the sixth pick all but shoots down that hypothetical trade imo.

Yeah it's all silly talk. The Oilers are the only team where some possibility exists that they may trade their pick but even that's slim as a team is going to have to part with a top pairing defensemen under contract without a NMC.

Not that it'd ever happen because the jackets would ask for way too much, could lumbus not pick puljujarvi then if Brown is available when the flames pick swap him for the 6th plus whatever?

They could do that, and it happens in other sports, but I can't recall a time where a player has been picked in the first round and traded before the day was out.

This is absolutely a scenario where it would make sense for Columbus to do so if they feel like Pulju is more valuable but they want Brown more. Keeps all the cards in their hands.

A lot of scouts seem to think that Puljujarvi has the capability of becoming an NHL center. Laine looks like his game is geared towards that of a winger.

So, with that information, it really depends on how Columbus has him pegged. Is he a winger only to them, or is he a C/W?

I really like Brown, but I take Pujujarvi over him. I would take one Puljujarvi over 2 Browns. Columbus might be entertaining offers, but those offers are going to be over-payments before Columbus starts considering them. I actually prefer Laine over Puljujarvi as well, but there are some scouts out there from listening to a bunch of interviews saying that Puljujarvi may indeed become the better player in the long run with his speed and puck distribution skills - and his ability to play center.

I also agree that if Columbus does happen to really like Brown, I can't see them trading down to Calgary for him with the rumors of Vancouver liking Brown a lot as well. If so, that would take an even bigger over-payment on Calgary's part with that kind of risk.

Juolevi, Sergachev and Chychrun seem to shuffle around a lot in the rankings.

Perhaps not the most logical way of looking at it, but all things being equal, I take the Finn. That country is in beast mode lately when it comes to producing players.
