That's a good one hit wonder. I would say Black Betty by Ram Jam has to be one of the longest playing one hit wonder songs. Pretty well any sporting event plays it.

I'll raise you this:

Some people might know a few of his other songs, but everyone knows this song, and it even made the big screen in "The Sting" in the 70s, IIRC. And it was written in 1902.

I remember that I had to learn to play that damned song for one of my royal conservatory exams.

I didn't have anywhere near the finger speed to pull it off.

silver Skates though, I was the master of that song.

James Blunt's "Your Beautiful". He might barely qualify as a one hit wonder in North America, as that was his only real hit single (he had another reach #10 in Canada which never even charted in the US), and managed to turn this song into a pair of #1, platinum selling albums.

Amusingly, Blunt's record label refused to allow Weird Al Yankoivic to release his parody of the song on the Straight Outta Lynwood album out of fears it would cement Blunt's status as a one-hit wonder.

Take On Me isn't far behind that one.

Take on Me is definitely one of my favorite one-hit-wonders (atleast in North America, they had some other hits in Europe). It's also the first music video I remember seeing, and probably still my favorite of all time.

The 80's in general had some great one hit wonders.

I know what you mean, but by this definition maybe they are?

While no singular established criterion exists to classify an artist as a one-hit wonder, the frequently-cited technical description of a one-hit wonder in the United States defines a hit single as one which hits the top 40 of the national singles chart, the Billboard Hot 100. [wikipedia]

I never liked that Dexy's or Big Country got called One Hit Wonders, when they had a good body of work.

I always thought this was kind of an obvious choice for best one-hit wonder ever.

Tainted Love was a cover song, so maybe it should be viewed differently.

This song is what nightmares are made of. It's also a one hit wonder from the '00s which appears to be a difficult concept to grasp for some?

That 'Beautiful Girls' song used to drive me up wall, I'm glad that guy never had another hit. I figured he would be a one-hit wonder, but I also thought Katy Perry and Lady GaGa would be too.

Of course the alltime one-hit wonder is probably Henry VIII.
