Hey everyone - any chance someone can help? Airdrie moved in a whole bunch of evacuees over the weekend - a new condo place here is giving them free accomodations for the next little while. Most of the needs are being met.
However....this is where all y'all might be able to help. One of the guys who moved someone into a suite yesterday, was talking to the mom who, in the course of conversation over the mundane, mentioned that her little guy, who is 6, is a massive Flames fan. This family never asked for anything but the gentleman thought perhaps someone could source a Flames jersey for the kiddo, all things considered.
I am waiting to hear a size - he put the idea out on a social media site and I've replied but not heard back yet. Could be the need has already been met but until I get a reply, I won't know.
Anyone maybe able to help get this kiddo a jersey if the request hasn't been filled yet? As soon as I know a size, I can post here. Just thought, of all the online communities out there, this one might be best placed to help cheer this little guy up a smidgen.
Also, I know this isn't local but I saw this video yesterday. Chilliwack residents got together last week and filled 4 semis full of goods (diapers, wipes, water, etc etc), and a bunch of guys drove the supplies out to Alberta - I believe they went to the Edmonton evacuee centre to drop off but I'm not terribly clear on that - might have been LLB. I thought it was stupendous and wanted to share the video (much horn blowing, so turn your speakers down):
Today I'm going to be running around trying to get a fundraiser organized for the end of the month. Really hoping the groups I approach will be willing to help as the entirety of the fundraising idea will revolve around them. Fingers crossed.

The Sikh community of Metro Vancouver area plans on Monday to send a tractor-trailer load full of donations to Fort McMurray, Alta., to help victims of the massive wildfire.
Avtar Gill, who is coordinating the donation drive, said the region’s Sikh temples and schools have been busy accepting donations to help those who have lost their homes and personal items due to the wildfire.
The truck will take the items to Edmonton where the goods will then get delivered to those who are displaced from the massive fire that swept through the region last week. The donation drive has been widely broadcast on the ethnic radio stations, and people have come through, said Gill.
“This has been a collective effort from the Sikh community,” he said of the campaign. “This effort is entirely being done based on their need,” he said of the fire victims, many who have yet to find out if their homes are still standing.
You can add $100 from myself to the donations tally.
While it can be said that the situation itself didn't need any additional motivating factors, seeing the CP community stand up and donate so much has certainly motivated me to help out as well. You all are a generous bunch.

This little guy is a size 5. Anyone that might be able to gift him a nice surprise? Doesn't have to be new. I can pick up. I don't know who this kid is at all, just that they're being put up at the Skyline condos here in Airdrie.
Sorry if this has already been answered. Could someone please direct me on where I could donate stuff for babies in Calgary area to help those impacted by the fire in Fort Mac? Thanks in advance.
The Canadian Red Cross will give $50-million to more than 80,000 evacuees from Fort McMurray – the largest and quickest distribution of money in the agency’s history – in addition to assistance also announced by the Alberta government.
Conrad Sauvé, chief executive officer and president, said the Red Cross would transfer $600 to adults and $400 to dependents who have registered with the agency.
Quote:
“This is the most important cash transfer we’ve done in our history and the fastest one,” Mr. Sauvé told a joint news conference in Edmonton alongside Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.
I have seen a lot of stories and posts in social media questioning if the Red Cross would give this money to victims.
This is really amazing to see.

Did you contact The Flames? I'd bet they would put something together. There has to be a player still in town or some alumni.

I have a kids Large. It's a little big for a 5 year old, but he could always grow into it.
It's great to see all the communities, companies and people come together to help people in need.

I checked with the guy who thought this little guy would like it and if you're willing to donate it, he said to go ahead. I could pick up tomorrow afternoon or early evening, or Saturday/Sunday. I'm out all day Friday, going for a hike with my son. Saturday we have to drop a mutt off for a groomer's appointment at noon, but could come after that. Sunday is free all day. Let me know what works for you and we'll arrange via PM. Thanks a bunch - I'm sure this little guy will love it.
