Living in a fleabag apartment on 5th St. in Mission. When the game was over, all hell broke loose outside – hundreds of car horns, people on the street whooping and hollering. It was a terrific contact high, but needless to say, I didn't sleep that night.

Given that it was a business day and the last day of tax season - and in those days the returns were all "paper", probably finishing off client files and delivering them to the Harry Hays building by midnight. Didn't see the game at all. Just heard a lot of noise.
edit: just watched the video of it again and laughed to see little Mikey Vernon and all the (much taller) Flames surround him. Kinda forgot how short he was!!

Believe it or not...I was actually at this hockey game...must have been 9 at the time. Went down to ice level before the start of the game and waved to lanny and he waved back. Boy were there some upset oiler fans at the end of that game. Our car battery died and lucky for us a stranger did not hold any grudges against me and my Dad and gave us a boost.

Watched it at my buddy's house in Willow Park - went to the airport to meet the team. Remember some 'Smith for MVP' chants at the airport

April 30th, 1986 - Where were you?
Was at home watching with my dad. We couldn't take the pressure so we went for a walk around Glenmore Park, near where we lived, for the whole 3rd period. We knew something good had happened when we heard the whole neighbourhood cheering about halfway through our walk but we didn't know what it was; got home to catch the final minute, which was brutal but worth it.

For years after that poor Steve Smith would have to edure catcalls of "Shoot! Shoot!" from fans at the Dome whenever he had the puck.

I was watching the game with my sister and brother who were Oiler fans, and my dad who was cheering for Calgary with me. Still remember when the goal happened, Flames blew a 2-0 lead and it wasn't looking good with the Oilers pressuring, and then I heard Don Whitman shout he scores! Im like who? what? I didn't see it happen, I was watching where the puck could go not where it was, on Steve Smith stick. Once I saw the reply I was elated and just hoping the oilers wouldn't tie it up. Thought it would be a great way for the perfect Oilers to lose the game. How I hate that team to this day
One of my favorite moments as a Flame

Inside a log cabin, high in the Alberta foothills, listening on the radio. Raced around yelling my head off with that goal.

Watching on TV at home, cheering my 10 year-old ass off! One of the moments that the hockey gods seemed to crack a big $hit eating grin and say "watch this".
I also remember the headline in the Sun sports section when Smith joined the Flames - "Now he really is on our team" or something like that. Pure awesome.

I was alive, but don't remember. My first flames memory is Fleury scoring a hattrick to get 50 goals. I was at the game it was fan appreciation night.

I would guess in bed as I was 10 then. I would have watched Canada AM (TFC then) the next day to try to catch a 30 second highlight of the game.

I was home watching the game from my sofa. IIRC it wasn't that the Oil were overwhelming favourites. When Smith scored it was a while of momentary disbelief and laughter, as how could we win by such a freak goal? It was pretty tense as the clock clicked down though.
I think later some video showed the Oilers ignoring Smith for the rest of the game. He looked like a leper at the end of the bench and I felt a little sorry for him but not a lot.

Grade 4. All the kids were Oiler fans in Cochrane in those days. It was awesome to be able to give it to em. Yes, it was his birthday. Yes, everyone yelled SHOOT for years afterwards.
That Tim Hunter pic really shows how much joy that team took in beating those dickbags.
