No. We're just Canada officially since 1982.

This was a big deal, as China had one of the original 5 Security Council seats and the Republic of China kept that seat till 1971 when the PRC took it over and was recognized as the official government of China. This is why the PRC still considers Taiwan theirs, and to be fair they have a legitimate case, although since they've been separate for almost 70 years, that case gets less and less valid. It's also why the PRC is dead set against Taiwan declaring itself independent and no longer "China".

I wouldn't say they have a legitimate claim to Taiwan. IIRC Taiwan was only a part of China for a few years and only because the Western powers insisted upon it as the island was overrun by Malay pirates and they wanted to make it someone else's problem. As for more recent history of the Chinese migrating to Taiwan, I look at it much the same as the United Empire Loyalists moving to Canada. It doesn't give the Yanks a claim to our country.

I still think Bohemia sounds so much better but understand this could be offensive to the Moravians.

Slightly off topic but I got into a massive argument with a patriotic Englishman the other day when I suggested England didn't win the war, the USA and Soviets did.
Edit: unless you are talking WWI which France and England were definitely the winners of.

Kind of an insulting thing to say though, the bravery and fight in the British is incredible and allowed time for the US to finally join the fight and turn the tide.
When a country sits on the sidelines during the first years of a major war while watching its allies get destroyed its hard to come back decades later and be cocky about it.
Of course without the US joining the war after it was attacked dramatically changed the war, and of course the stupidity of Hitler deciding to take on Mother Russia, this sealed the Axis' fate.
It just RGMG when people play the "We saved your ass in ww2!" gambit so many people use.
Its like you stood there watching a friend being beaten to death, and finally 2-3 blows before he's dead his buddy blind sides you and you then join the fight and talk about being a hero.
Also RGMG when people mock France for Germany's incredible advance and conquering of them, when in reality no army could have stopped the blitzkrieg at the time, just woe to them having been neighboring this monster next door.

I definitely know now it was a very stupid thing to say. To be fair it was in response to him insulting a Frenchman by saying "that's why they lost the war" and my response was "you guys didn't do so great either". Then the conversation really took a turn for the worst when he triggered my patriotic side by suggesting Canada contributed nothing to the war effort.
Sorry to derail the thread. To conclude, don't bring up history, politics or religion in casual conversation.

It could be argued Britain did the most to win the war.
-naval blockade of Europe denied Germany certain metals, natural rubber, natural oil
-six years on multiple fronts all over the world. USSR fought four years on one front
-outproduced Germany in key fighter planes between Munich and the Battle of Britain
-Greece & Balkan campaigns delayed Barbarosa. Africa/Sicily/Italy diverted Axis resources
-D-Day, Bomber Command, code breaking, convoys, Burma etc. etc.

It's debatable. Russia only had one enemy to fight. UK & US had two + Italy which only sent a few divisions to the Eastern Front. Russia did face nearly the full brunt of the German army, but war isn't only fought on land.

Russian blood and Western resources.
The war is not won without both.
