Looking at both the Atlantic series, I think Tampa or Detroit would wipe the floor with either of these guys. I was kind of expecting the opposite. That could obviously change by the next round.

Well, that was a game that Florida didn't necessarily deserve to win, but the same could be said of the Islanders in the first game. Series is even the way it ought to be.
Good news is that Luongo got his game back on point. Bad news is that Jagr looks really beat up all of a sudden and is a step behind every play. He hasn't looked slow all year, so something must be bugging him. It's affecting that entire line's effectiveness.
Something to watch: The so-called "best 4th line in hockey" for the Islanders, consisting of Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck, was really in Luongo's face, and were trying to throw reckless hits all over the ice in order to intimidate the Panthers. The line of Wilson-MacKenzie-Thornton responded in kind, and there was a big scrum near the end of the 2nd period where the entire line for each team was sent to the penalty box. After the Panthers scored the empty netter to essentially finish the game, Capuano decided to send out his 4th line, to which Gallant decided to do the same. The official sent both lines back to the bench and basically yelled at both coaches to pick another line to play the last 10 seconds of the game. He was adamant and wildly gesticulating at both team's coaches, on-ice players, and benches, trying to maintain some control of the game and avoid a brawl. Probably the right choice by the ref, but I honestly can't remember seeing a referee ever do that before.

It should always be like this late in games when it's obvious one team is going to goon it up. Refuse to drop the puck until both teams put out appropriate lines and if a team refuses then it's a bench minor and any subsequent refusal results in a big fine/suspension for the coach. I'm also not against giving the ref the ability to just call the game at that point if coaches are being dumb.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you. I'm just saying I've never seen it before where the ref made a judgment call on why a line was being sent out. I didn't even think that was allowed. Maybe it happens often and I've never noticed it.

Dislike refs call. They shouldn't be allowed to dictate who coaches put on the ice.
I think all the gooning and brawls are a joke and detract from the game, but that's up to the NHL to change, not the refs.

And what is the most effective way of stopping coaches doing it? By giving the refs the power to use their common sense. Nothing wrong with that at all. Coach acts like a stroppy child, gets treated like one.
Most effective thing is for the nhl brass to wise up and take all the scrums and facewashes out of the game. Look at the other 3 major sports - facewashes and outside the whistle shoving results in ejections and suspensions. The NHL normalizes this behavior and even encourages it.

Looks like Trocheck will join the Panthers on the trip to Brooklyn, but won't play in game 3. Rocco Grimaldi was returned to the minors, and Logan Shaw was recalled. Seems like they felt he wasn't getting the job done physically, and he looked overmatched at times with the pace of play. Shaw was with the team nearly all year, and has a solid physical game. Maybe Quinton Howden will get in the game today too. Michael Matheson (raw rookie with just a couple of NHL games) will stay in the lineup over Jakub Kindl.
Looks like the Islanders will go with essentially the same lineup. Quine, Pulock, and Prince have impressed Capuano.
Panthers need the top line to get going. Through 2 games the trio of Huberdeau-Barkov-Jagr have just 2 assists and are a combined -6. Jagr looks like he's hurting after taking a pretty rough tumble into the boards early in game 1.
3rd game in 4 nights. This is going to be an early test of stamina and fitness between these two clubs. Panthers have some of the oldest players in this series, so it may affect them more.
Let's go Panthers!!!
