Our fan base is full of people with unreasonable expectations. But people are going to see Iggy playing with Gaudreau/Monahan on the 1st line and they will expect a certain amount of production from him. They will then be disappointed when he doesn't deliver. Just read some of the comments people write about how good Iginla would look on Johnny's wing. People in their imaginations already expect certain results.
They see an Iginla who's been getting ~60 pts with good linemates(Lucic/Krejci, Landeskog/Duchene). This season, as far as I can tell, he's been bouncing up and down the lineup. He was last on the 3rd line with Mitchell/Comeau... not exactly stars. And his scoring has suffered as a result; sitting at 45 pts on the year.
Expecting him to be a 50 pt winger with an ever-improving Johnny/Mony when he's able to get 45 pts bouncing around the lineup is very much within the realm of possibility.

Yes that will happen, but I don't feel like it'll be that big of a distraction. Iginla would just do what he did with the other teams - come in, head down, be a good team guy, put the work in. If someone asks about it, he'll likely just keep reiterating it's Gio's team until they stop asking him.

If the Flames draft Matthews, add a stud goalie and are comfortably in a playoff spot at the deadline next year I would have to say I would have interest. Iggy has gas left in the tank and the thought of Gio passing the cup to him is something dreams are made of. I would cry real tears

If we are bringing in Iggy to play on the 1st line we got a major problems and are probably not a legitimate threat anyway, so no.
If we are bringing him for depth purposes to possibly fill the void on the 2nd or 3rd line because somebody suffered a injury, then I would consider it.
As much as I love Iggy, I realized that time has passed and the only way you bring him in is if your a cup favourite and he isn't required to play a major role.
He's a legitimate NHL Hall of Famer, that can still produce points.
The big thing is to not build the team around him. In the past, Iggy and Kipper were the core, and we were always trying to find guys that could slot in with Iggy, and if something worked, they stuck around for a while (see Tanguay).
This time around, he could easily fill a RW gap that we have which we can build around our new, younger core. I think it'd be tough to slot him in on the 1st line, but potentially 2nd or 3rd for sure. I also think with Iggy being on a few teams since his previous Calgary days, he'd be more humble and open to being a mentor for the younger guys, and would totally be okay with not being the cornerstone franchise player.

Iginla is too fricken slow and way to much of a one way player. If you were pissed at his cherry picking and inability to help out in the defensive end of the ice during his last couple of years here the current Iginla will drive you insane! The only people that would benefit from Iginla returning, especially during the playoffs, would be television manufacturers. There would be so many remote controls launched at screens out of frustration from Iginla not being able to play to expectations that repairs or new sets would hit an all time high in Calgary. Iginla was once a great player. He isn't anymore. He isn't even very good. In the speed game of the new NHL, Iginla stands out like a sore thumb.
I think it wouldn't be a bad idea depending on the cost. If you can get him for a D-level prospect or very late round pick he could be a good bottom 6 / 2nd unit PP guy. But the fact that he's talking about playing with Johnny probably means he would still want top 6 minutes and unless he has a Jagr-esque bounce back season next year he's just not a top 6 guy anymore. Would be very cool to have him back for a playoff run but he would be a complimentary piece and would likely be on the bench at crunch time.

For those of you that want to bring Iggy back might I recommend that you subject yourself to the 90 minute living-in-the-past-fest that will be following tonight's Oilers/Canucks game. If that doesn't provide enough embarrassment to get the concept out of your head nothing will. 2004 is 12 years ago. Let it go and look forward to building new memories and heros to talk about bringing back 12 years from now.
He would play on the 2nd line and get 2nd unit PP time. He would make our top 6 bigger and tougher to play against. He would also be a positive influence on how to be a true pro off the ice and with your training.

It sure beats watching David Jones and the likes of David Jones clumsily stumbling around desperately tying to be a top 6 RW on a team with only has one or two right handed shot natural RWers on the team.

1) he is still an effective right wing sniper.
2) veteran depth during the playoffs is valuable, especially when it's a hard worker like Iginla
3) winning the cup with Iginla on board would be a magical moment that I wouldn't want to pass up.

I'm pretty disappointed in what I'm reading from posters. Iginla is still alive and well and people are treating him like he's dead and gone. Very sad for someone who gave 1000+ games to the franchise and once held the keys to the city.
If the Flames are in a playoff position, you bring him back, absolutely. You give up a 3rd rounder for him, or a 2nd a year later and you add that grey beard of power. I will not let the dream of Iggy winning a cup die until he's been retired for 18 months.
Unreasonable to think he's going to be on the 1st line and a point a game player, but I would dress him over Stajan, Bollig, Raymond, Jooris and Grant without a doubt.

I'd bring him back if all parties (Iginla, management, fans and media) realize and accept he will play a different role. I believe he still has something to offer.

Think Bill Guerin, 2009 playoffs for Pittsburgh. Not saying the Flames are cup contenders next year, just the kind of role Iggy could play for a playoff team.
