Some people here are overvaluing what a 2nd round pick is worth and undervaluing Yakupov. If you were able to pick up a player of Yak's talent in the second round it would be a steal. I seriously doubt they get rid of him for a 2nd.
This reminds me of Stephen Colbert's great joke from the White house correspondents dinner in 06 about George Bush

I agree with your first sentence but the Oilers probably won't get much more than that IMO. Maybe a late 1st or a 2nd+ B prospect.
Yeah, this is the best they could hope for and it's realistic. As a Leaf fan I would be down for this.
It just made me laugh some people on here saying they would trade a 4th for him, maybe a 3rd, no way a 2nd. A 4th gets you a 3rd-line rental. Leafs got a 4th for Shawn Matthias. Yakupov still has one more year at 2.5 million and is then a RFA. Really hope the Leafs can snag him.
Honestly I think the fact that he plays for the Oilers is really coloring people's opinion of his value. If this was Montreal shopping him (assuming his play was just as lackluster), I'm thinking that people would be a lot more receptive to the Flames acquiring him.

But he has yet to prove anything in the NHL. He hasn't even hit 20 goals. At this point, the Oilers would be lucky to get a second for him
The thing about Yakupov for me is that he tries his ass off most nights. He maybe going in the wrong direction some of the time but the effort is there. I like players with effort, and I think that he has a good shot. With some proper mentoring I think that he might still turn it around and be a contributor.

I agree with this. I would give the Dallas pick for him. (Even if it turns out to be a late first) Throw him on a line with Bennett and see what happens. Hell, he only has one year left on his contract.
Yakoupov seems to have responded decently to McLellan as far as work effort (recall his "defense" comment last season), so he (like all those guys really) just needed some stability and direction from his coaches.
Hall's done ok with it too...the others seems to have been forever ruined by the formative NHL years and Lowe's doublespeak, meddling, and cranking the carousel of coaches while getting MacTavish to do all his speaking and dirty work.
I think he can still be salvaged (somewhere else) if given the right situation, given that bounce back this year, raw talent, and size.
He's just a very average professional hockey player. If he was a guy that was drafted in later rounds he would be in the AHL or in and out of the press box as a 4th line player on an NHL roster. I watch a fair bit of Oilers games and IMO he's got nothing on a guy like Josh Jooris.

Yakupov's a one dimensional scoring winger that yet to reach a 20 goals season despite playing 4 seasons. There are a lot better options in the league for that 1st rounder such as Eberle.
Wait...lots here say Jankowski is worth more than the second round compensatory pick but the former first overall playing in the leagues worst franchise isn't worth a second rounder?
That's homerism and I don't even like Yakupov. But Yakupov's value is worth more than a second rounder. Not much more but probably a late first and and a middle of the road prospect.

Both are probably worth around the same. A third rounder.
I'd take Jankowski over the second rounder though because the pick is a year from now. I'll buy the time and take the prospect there.
I don't think I'd trade a third rounder for Yakupov (he has 6 goals this season and is horrendous defensively and he's played with McDavid and sucked so I doubt Gaudreau can do much for him either). Someone will trade a third rounder for Yakupov.
Jankowski is a pending UFA. The only reason he has any trade value at all is due to the conditional draft pick attached to him. Yakupov is definitely worth more in a trade IMO. Only on a Flames message board would such a notion exist.
