As much talk about the goaltending, the Flames just can't produce enough offence. Woe-be to Flames without such impressive defensive scoring output.

Colborne is going to score 20 goals this year by sheer force of will. He's like a clydesale out there, eventually he's just using his brute force to muscle a goal or two in. How many chances did he have tonight? 7? 8?

Jokipakka looks terrific. I love that guy already. I'd say he's easily been Calgary's most consistently physical defender, maybe player, since his arrival. What a great trade, addressed a huge need for this roster and I think he's going to pay immediate dividends in the next two years.

Hiller is not long for the NHL. Flames have a league worst goaltending to go along with league worst PP.

Gaudreau's inability to produce goals away from home ice is troubling. If it's a trend that continues next season it could be extremely troubling. 52 points at home vs 19 on the road, 4 goals on the road, 23 goals (in 37 games) a home.

Bouma seems to be the victim of as many big hits this year as he threw last year. injury aside, just another game in a step-back season from him.

As far as this team goes, Stajan isn't anywhere near a problem. His cap sucks hard, but he is a contributor out there and I think provides a lot of heart for the roster.

Bollig stinks. Don't know what the situation is like in the lockerroom, but his on-ice attitude doesn't seem in sync with the rest of the roster.

Couple nice hits from Ferland tonight.

Liked Jooris' response to the hit. It wasn't just that it was a big hit, it was that rat Kadri doing it.

As weak as Hiller is IN net, Nakladal is in front of the net. Soft effort on his part tonight. I don't expect Hulkamania out there, but put in at least a Jordan Leopold level effort to tie up your man or put your stick on his hip.

Monahan had a couple of rough turnovers tonight. Not a great game from him. Maybe had too much fun in Montreal last night.

Flames really need more forwards. 2 more top 6 players and probably 2 more bottom 6 players. Very thin lineup if you really look at it.

This loss stings because Johnny and Mony didn't get any points!

Johnny deserved a tertiary assist on the Colborne goal. That was all him.

When you've got one good offensive line and your opponent has the last change, you can expect to get shut down. The best cure for Gaudreau's road production is a second line that can score.

With how unimportant an instigator or roughing minor is in the grand scheme of things as we sit in whatever bottom 10 spot we are right now - I have absolutely no problem with someone getting roughed up a bit for taking a run at Johnny clean hit or not... especially Nauseum Frickin Kadri.

From what I can tell, it's the Flame who have struggled.

http://mcubed.net/nhl/cal/tor.shtml

3-8-0 in the last 16 years and, if I'm reading the series log at the bottom, they are right about 1 regulation win in the last 20 in Toronto. Though this also extends back to 1997...so you're running a lot of Flames teams through that record.

The Flames certainly have dominated the Leafs at home in the last 6 years though.

Rich Sutter was on Hockey Central at Noon earlier this year and told a story about his playing days in Vancouver. Their goalie, Brodeur (not the legendary one) was dodging and turning away from shots in practice. He didn't want to play. Rich got so fed up he threatened to shoot a puck at Brodeur's head. Brodeur kept on doing it so in a pre-game warmup Sutter got him in the head with a slapshot and knocked his helmet off. Brodeur didn't play, used the shot as an excuse to sit out and never played for the Canucks again.

The point of this story is I wish a Flame would've done this to Hiller

Yep. When Bennett's line is consistently dangerous, that's when we'll be very hard to shut down.

Gonna need to move Wideman to make cap space to add at least one established too two line forward through UFA and/or trade.

Shame, timing-wise. Maybe Backlund's worst game in a month

Classic tank commander Hiller.

I loved the guy last season. Thought he was a huge part of the team making the playoffs and having the success they did. But this is just sad now. Very very sad. I don't think I've ever seen a player decline this bad, this fast. Never ever in my life of watching hockey.

Truly mind bottling

First of all, as a flames fan in Toronto it kills me they lose this game every year (and has lost me a lot of money in my office).
Otherwise, my only take away is that I thought Bernier was quite effective this game. He had a great ability to slow down the play by controlling a lot of rebounds. We had some good chances and he smothered them. It was the complete opposite in our end.
...
Oh, and Kadri is a rat punk.

Can you imagine the softies that Hiller must give up in practice. No wonder the team has no confidence with him in the net.

Glencross. That decline came out of absolutely nowhere and forced to retire.

So with the loss, the Flames are 5 games under .500, as are BUF and VAN. COL are 6, WPG 8, TOR 9, and EDM 10. ARI are 3 down.

Tomorrow night, VAN is in WPG and EDM in ARI. Somebody has to win those games. Also, BUF is in CAR and COL hosts PHI.
