Never ever thought a 1st round pick was realistic for Hudler. Isn't nearly the all-round package that Ladd is. 2nd round is what I expected.

don't understand the hate for the return.. organization doing what's right and selling before the deadline. did florida get good value on hudler? yes, for the flames it's never glamorous to be a seller at the deadline, but i'm glad our organization does what it needs to.

In the first trade for the flames thread I said Hudler to Fla for a second. Close but no cigar I guess.

I think he's worth more than that. Top point producer at even strength last year. I think he has been injured most of this year.

Little surprised at those being upset. Hudler was having an atrocious season up until a month ago and a 2nd and a 4th is good value. Underwhelming maybe but fair.

Good value.
Adding additional picks is always good in a situation like this.
For those of you undervaluing 4th round picks - fans of the Flames, moreso than other teams, should see the potential value in a 4th round pick.
I doubt we would have even gotten a 2nd round pick if it weren't for Jiri stepping up and scoring over the last 10 or so games.
Unlike Ladd, Jiri brings 0 to the team on the ice if he isn't scoring - and until recently, Jiri wasn't scoring.

Yeah, but last year was a career year for Jiri and this year, regardless of reason, has been underwhelming. Could we have maximized on his value last summer? Perhaps, but we had other plans at that stage.
I like this return.

Not much difference in the crap shoot that is rounds 3-7. 3rd or 4th, who cares. Developing that pick should be focus.

We got a 4th which is exactly what we need. We are due for another Brodie/Gaudreau.

People shouldn't be upset with the return. There are still people upset we didn't get a 3rd for Cammy years ago. Treliving can't fleece the other GM every single time, sometimes fair value is just a couple of picks and you have to take it.
On another note, excited to watch Hudler and Jagr in the playoffs now! Good luck Jiri, thanks for everything!

Bit less of a return than I hoped but pretty close to what was to be expected.
Good luck in Florida Hudler! Thanks for some great moments in Calgary and for helping to bring Johnny and Monahan to where they are today.

There's a thread of predictions for the first Flames deadline deal.
Ahem.

I would have preferred to sign him. I would have pushed the contract negotiations and tried to get a favourable deal.

Im starting to turn on BT. Weak to average signings out side of Brodie. Weak trades. AHL system doesn't look to be doing a good job developing our guys.

Still think the price should've been a 2nd and 3rd as an 'acceptable' return. There's plenty of demand and hardly any high-end producers being shopped. Vrbata and Purcell are having worse years and aren't coming off being top 10 in scoring.
