He obviously hasn't lived up to what he did in the playoffs but I don't think anyone realistically expected him to. He's still been a good player most of the year, and he leads the team in hits by a fairly large amount.
Interesting because I have seen a lot of "I hate Hiller", "I hate Colbourne" etc, posts over the past few months to which I've never said a single time in regards to Ferland. I have made it pretty clear over the years I don't hate on Flames players. I never use that word in describing a Flames player. I'm not a sentimental fan so I don't pick favourites with players as I criticize them as I see fit depending on their play. I discussed how I felt Ferland was way overrated by some Flames fans in one or two threads but please dig up some game threads where I'm dogging him. You won't find much if anything. All I said was he needs to play every game like he's playing the Canucks as that seems to be the only time we see the forward that some players think he is. I'm not wrong here am I?

I'm not the only person that feels this way about him but I'm fair at the same time as I have praised him when he's played well. On topic he's the guy that should ideally be that jerk/pest player but I don't know if he's trying more to be a scoring forward or he doesn't believe his body can hold up. I don't have the answer but I we saw what he could do against the Canucks and it's a shame he can't be that player against other teams because if he could he may be able to live up to the Flames fans hype.

Here you go, straight from an NHLer. This is what I was saying:

Intimidation is still a major part of pro hockey, which is why he continued doing his job while officials did theirs.

“You don’t expect everyone will drop the gloves and fight you, but you hope your presence makes them think, ‘I can’t do that anymore or I’ll have to fight him,’ ” Bollig said.

“You just kind of hope the message is sent, and, more often than not, it is.”
Bollig is convinced having tough guys like him, Deryk Engelland and Micheal Ferland in the Flames lineup partially explains why Gaudreau has rarely been hit like Manson did in Gaudreau’s two years here.

I would rather see our tougher players play their stars hard. Finish every check, give them a stick after the play.

I would like to see us land Tom Wilson from Washington, or Michael McCarron from the habs. Both are huge, tough, and have displayed some skill in the past.

Funny how the strengths of this team 10 years ago are now its biggest weaknesses while its biggest weaknesses back the are it's biggest strengths now.

Strengths in 2006: An Elite Goal scoring RW powerforward, a vezina-quality goaltender, big/physical shut-down defenceman.

Weaknesses in 2006: Not enough skill at center ice, no playmaking winger, not enough offence from defensemen.

Strengths in 2016: Young, skilled depth at center ice, Elite playmaking winger, 3 solid/high-end puck-moving defencemen.

Weaknesses in 2016: Not enough size/grit in top 6, no goal-scoring RW, no big/physical shutdown defencemen in the top 4, terrible goaltending.

You mix the 2016 Flames and the team from 10 years ago and you have yourself a Stanley Cup Contender.

Shocking that Bollig thinks his role is important. Bollig was playing in that game against Anaheim - evidently it didn't stop Manson from doing what he did.

Who's the tough guy protecting Kane? Crosby? Why aren't they getting cheapshots every game with no tough guy to protect him.

Crosby has taken a lot of cheap shots over the years. He's been called a whiner at times but for the most part he's sucked it up and played through it. Kane is like Gadreau in that he's good at knowing how to get out of the way but this is the NHL and players get hit and at time take cheap shots.
