That's a really difficult question to answer in light of how different these players are from one another. I tend to think that all three are invaluable to the future of the Flames in fairly equal measure. The Flames need all of them, and I don't think it is a simple matter of assigning a dollar figure to what each of them does for the team as a relative indication of their value.

What is the point of this question, anyways?

Possibly better than Monahan depending on how each of them develops. If Monahan is basically what he has shown thus far and does not get better over time, then it is possible that Hamilton could over take him. Monahan is 32nd among centers with points this season, which is at a low end 1st line top end 2nd line production. 3 points more and his 21st, which shows how close things are in that race. That doesn't make either player useless or worthy of scorn though. They are both really good and the Flames are lucky to have both.

Gaudreau on the other hand is one of the top players in the NHL already and it's doubtful that many players could rise to that level regardless of team or player. You're talking about a Hall of Fame caliber talent. Those don't come along too often regardless. I'm not saying that he's a HOF player right now. If he plays 15 years like the first two then yes, but there's a lot of hockey to go between now and then.

You are really asking what is the point of asking how players are relative to their teammates on a hockey forum?

If Bingo where to have a mission statement it would likely have something along the lines of providing a place for hockey fans to discuss the relative merits of hockey players.

Contract wise, I think Monahan at a 6 X 6 is about right and Gaudreau at 8 X 7.5 is in the correct ball park. Anything +/- 0.25 would be what I'd expect. In each case, that's a little more than Hamilton's contract.

Coming from you? You damn well better believe it. You have a pretty well worn track record of disdain for Michael Frolik and Dougie Hamilton, and are developing a reputation for passive aggressive, backhanded insults directed at CP and many of its posters.

I expect that a poll on this matter would be unsurprising. There are few if any who would argue that Hamilton is now or ever will be a better player than Gaudreau. I believe that most would also agree that Monahan is now and will be in the future a better player than Hamilton. It's a good bet that both of them will be paid more than Hamilton this off-season. But that in NO WAY is to suggest that Hamilton is somehow not an important player for this team moving forward—which I suspect is part of your motivation here.
