Time to clean house and get some of the guys from the minors up and playing. Let's see what we've got. Time to move out the guys that aren't in the long term plans. Hudler, Jones, Russell, and Hiller need to get moved. If you can find a taker for Wideman, Mason, Bolig and one of Stajan or Backlund I think you make those moves as well. Load up on picks and prospects and build for the future.

I'd rather have Shlemko than Wideman right now. Just gonna be honest. He was solid, just as he was all through his time as a Flame.

1/2 way through the season and everyone is talking about the draft.

Reminds me of a no good fanbase

I just like seeing guys like Johhny, Monahan, Bennett, Hamilton, Brodie continue to improve and take steps forward. That's what really matters for a team that won't be a contender for probably another 3 years. Watching guys like Colborne, Rayomd, Wideman and Hiller can be painful at times, but let's face it......when this team has a legitimate shot at a deep playoff run those guys will be long gone.

Add a stud froward through the 2016 draft, shore up the defensive depth a bit (preferably with guys that are already in the system) and figure out a long term solution in net. That's what I really care about moving forward.

The future is still pretty bright.

Agreed. Talk about the bad things and move on. Stop whining, it really stinks

At this point, I see the bright side of our team so I can't really be upset.
I wouldn't mind if they lost a bunch in a row and got a top 3 pick.
We REALLY need some high end skill on the offense.

The improvement of a top 6 player would make way more of an improvement than a upgrade on defensemen. I don't care if Russell is re-signed. What we need is more skilled forwards. We don't really have much to trade for a good player so if we really want to fit the last few pieces together and do so in a timely fashion to have the core in their prime I would have no problems with a tank, but that won't happen, so hopefully they just keep losing.

Isn’t whining… you know… talking about the bad things?

Yep. Realistically a few years back when they sold off Iginla and Bouwmeester looking forward this year's team is about where we should have expected them to be at this stage. Last season was nice and a great experience for the players but this season is kind of a reality check in that the roster isn't complete and there's still some big holes to fill. Still exciting times are on the horizon as they just need to keep adding quality pieces through the draft and getting that high pick ensures a better chance of getting another Monahan/Bennett type player for this franchise.

I don't have much confidence but there's still a tonne of time left.

But we won't get there by losing these types of games.

I think we'll see Treliving sell some pieces if there's interest while still expecting the team to get it together. Doesn't have the same feel though this year, that's for sure.

Jones, Hudler, and Russell should be traded for anything as they're expiring contracts. Also Wideman, Engelland, and Smid would be nice to get off the books. I'd shop basically anybody else not in the clear core.

Play Ramo as much as possible (without exhausting him again) to see if he's worth bringing back another year.

The Flames will go on a 5 game win streak and be in the playoffs again.

Then we will promptly suck for 10 games and lose the spot.

Rinse and repeat. This year the team once again has no consistency.

Forget the wins. At this point I'd rather have Matthews. There's too much baggage on this roster - especially the bottom 6 - to win this year.

Hey its okay for some fans to be realistic. Not all of us can blindly hope that we'll pass 3-4 teams down the stretch when so far this season we've been one of the worst teams in the league. I mean I understand why some people still want to believe and hope in playoffs no matter how bleak it starts to look. I like that optimism. Rock on IMO.

But yeah, some of us look at the standings, look at all the teams we need to pass, the probability of that happening, combine that with how inconsistent our goaltending, special teams, etc have been and it is starting to add up to looking unrealistic.

It's hard not to think about the draft if any of us watched some of the available kids dominate the World Juniors against players 1-2 years older than them. Matthews, Puljujarvi, Laine, Tkachuk, Juolevi and Nylander were crazy good. Best ever showing by a draft class at the World Juniors that I've EVER seen. No hyperbole. It's hard not to get excited thinking about adding one of those players to the awesome core the Flames have assembled.
