If you consider $4m a little cap hit then yes.

Assuming Lecavalier retires it's not 4 million next though?

I would assume this means Matt Greene is out at least until playoffs since they don't have room to activate him?

Whata truly baffling deal.

LA: Lose a promising prospect and a 3rd rounder. Gain 2 players who I really doubt will be anything more than bottom lines guys, both of whom are probably gone in the summer, unless they can get Schenn signed to a small cap hit.

How does this deal make sense from their point of view? I just don't get it.

As for Philly, seems like a home run even with the retained salary. They lose both in the summer with no recapture penalties on Lecavalier and get a prospect and a 3rd rounder.

Again, am I missing something, or is this a home run win for Philly?

Schenn may be a useful player for LA. He has only played on bad teams. He can be buried down the line up in LA behind the likes of Muzzin, Martinez and some guy named Doughty. He won't need lots of ice time and will have sheltered minutes on this team. Sutter will find a good use for him.

Lecavalier? He won't have much of a role.

Right. But they are basically done for moves this year unless they can do an even salary deal.

Any deal that makes the Kings worse is a-ok in my books.

Is Lecavalier a warm body even at this point? Baffling that the Kings would take that on.

4 million is the combined cap hit this year of Lecavlier and Schenn. But Schenn is UFA next year and if Lecavlier retires there's no cap hit next year at all.

I'd laugh if Vinnie pulls a fast one and doesn't retire. Actually, a promise to retire smacks of cap avoidance.

My bad: LA trades for a warm body defenceman and a statue that will decorate the the Staples Center staff room.

But, are they worse? They've added depth. Is Schenn going to single-handedly bring them down to the rest of the pack? Lecavalier won't as I don't think he'll get much playing time.

In the future, maybe this will handcuff them but right now, it doesn't hurt them.

Its more of a worse in terms of opportunity cost. They've handcuffed themselves from getting anyone else to improve their team.

Looking at LA's lineup it seems like Schenn will be the #6 or #7 and Lecavalier will be the 13th forward

Doesn't really make sense but Sutter may have asked for these two

I think the Kings just traded a third round pick for two players that stink and ate up what little cap space they had left so now they'll have a hard time making moves that don't stink.

Sutter may have asked for Schenn. But I doubt he asked for Lecavalier.

Hextal likely stood his ground and forced LA to take Lecavalier or no trade.

This is what I see as well. Stupid, stupid trade for the Kings.

If Matt Greene is gone long-term, I suppose the idea is to replace him with Schenn. Taking on Lecavalier would then be part of the price for Schenn. The 3rd-rounder is the other part.

As for the guy going the other way, I can only assume that Hextall had a dream in which Elmer Fudd told him, ‘You know Phiwwy's not going vewwy fah in the pwayoffs, so it's time to get weal!’

Even if Weal turns out to be a player, it's basically no loss for L.A. because they were liable to lose him on waivers.

Lecavalier has 1 point in 7 games this year.
