Should always draft skill, doesn't matter what round and where. Skill holds the greatest value and you need to be maximizing value.

I understand the Flames were looking at a prospect pool led by Gaudreau, Baerstchi and Granlund and saw the need for size, but that Hunter Smith pick was terrible in the 2nd round considering the talent that was available.

It's much easier to trade for guys like Hunter Smith and even young goalies than it is to pick up top 6 skill forwards or top 4 defencemen.
Examples?

And the flood gates open! Konecney made that Crouse goal happen.

Canada's pressure has been relentless, Denmark could only hold out for so long.

I'm just not happy with the idea of drafting a guy in the 2nd round that has bottom 6 potential which is what Smith and Kanzig are. I'm kind of okay with the Flames drafting a guy like Riley Bruce in the 7th round, but in the 2nd round when there is a lot of talent available? I think you have to maximize value and you do that by drafting guys with top 6 forward and top 4 defence potential since those types will maximize value. That's just the philosophy of this fan.

Sorry don't want to derail this thread anymore but I was asked to respond. Let's get back to WJC.

That was a lazy scoring chanceby Marner. He had so much room to get out in front more.

The MacDonald - Demko thing might haunt the Flames. I wasn't a big fan of taking a goalie there anway but passing on Demko to take MacDonald has always been a bit of a head scratcher. Having said that, I'm still not sure there is a goal that MacDonald has let in that you can actually blame him for.
McDonald, MC NOT MAC.

If you get David Jones with a late 2nd you are doing just fine.

I'm not sure there has been a goal in the tournament you can really blame on McDonald. A live bounce off the boards, a screen, two tips by his own players and then a puck off a skate. I'm not saying he's been fantastic but he certainly hasn't been bad either.

I feel bad for that Dane goalie. Kids going to have a heart attack working so hard.

Agreed, it was more so the timing of that goal. He needed to shut the door and give the team a chance to win. He's a Flames prospect so we are going to look at his performance as positively as possible and find excuses, but he needs to be much better.

I really like the way Hickey plays. He's like an assertive Jay Bouwmeester.

While I agree you'd like it stopped, when I watched in on replay it sure look to me like Brayden Point redirected it on its way. Tough for me to blame a goalie when that happens.

So if Sweden loses to canada it's a strong possibility for a 3 way tie. When was the last time this has happened?

I'm hoping/wanting Canada to score 5 more just in case goal differential comes into play at the end of the round robin.

If there's a three-way tie between Canada, Sweden, and the USA, the only games that will factor into the tiebreaker are the games between those three teams.

Goal differential in the games against Switzerland and Denmark doesn't matter. All that matters in those games is winning in regulation.
