That's pretty much it - like so many things in life, a little tact goes a long way.

Classic case of asking for handouts until you're finally busted.
I'm on board with Mr.Mast - I too donated at the time as I felt bad for the guy, shame on me for believing.

Fact stands, its been pointed out in all the linked threads, times don't appear to be as tough as he said, I mean he's at the GYM with his legs talking about the ladies meanwhile he's scared about his life, it just doesn't add up.

Sad it ended up this way, he's clearly tucked and in hiding I doubt we see him again.
Appreciate the tact evidence, really opens up the CP community's eyes.

I don't doubt he was living in his car and was on genuine tough times. I think most people are a little annoyed that at first he pretended he didn't know about gofundme (when clearly he did) and then kept dropping hints about tough times and money and such, likely building another case for more money.

I don't regret giving, and I hope we helped him. But looking back, what he should have done was come out and clearly stated he's on tough ass times, and needs a helping hand, then come back and genuinely thank the group and move on, instead of dwelling on being a martyr.

For me the big tip off, was how sad and pathetic the pictures in the go fund me's were. Here is a picture of me in a hospital bed. Here's a picture of my legs wrapped in bandages sitting on a little rascal.... etc. They seemed so staged, to garner maximum effect. Now we find out his horribly painful, damaged, legs, are so good in such a short period of time, they are covered in veins.... And it was the leg surgery I believe I donated to.

I personally felt like I was taken for a ride, and just said live and learn on the first one. Then when the homeless thread came up, I was going to make a public post about this and the other gofundme's, but everyone was jumping in to help, and I didn't want to be 'that guy'. I did text a couple members I know personally, but just didn't have the balls to call him out publicly in fear of the backlash.

In a way, the fact that MMF doesn't give a FF what anyone thinks, is good in this scenario. He had the balls to call a spade a spade.

Something didn't look right to me so I didn't donate. Looks like it was a good call in hindsight.

I wish MMF had raised the not knowing what GoFundMe is point at the time, as that is pretty indicative, that this is/was not sincere.
As pointed out I was away at the time but even then I don't know if I would have said anything...

Look at this thread, several months later. I make a relatively harmless post, just asking a couple questions and Zevo goes off the rail on me. Asking me if I drink, calling me a dink and a, whatever ### was. That post was than thanked by a bunch of "cool kids". Imagine if I had made a questioning post at the point during it all?

I think I would have received a tonne of backlash from the community.

Also want to make it very clear this isn't an attempt to make anyone who donated feel stupid or used. I donated as well, it's just about PIMking being honest about the whole thing.

ha, Yeah. It's mostly just a good memory and the search function. The initial GoFundMe wasn't discovered by me though, couple others pointed it out to me off CP during the homelessness one.

Good on Squiggs for continuing to ask hard and fair questions to him though.

I think the other thing that ticked people off is that it seemed he was asking for more handouts due to his own poor decision-making. Listen, I'll be the first to admit that I'm bad with my money. I should probably be much further ahead in my life at this point than I am, but even I was going "Dude, new IKEA furniture? After you just asked for money? What are you thinking?" I'm moving on the weekend and I don't have any furniture. You know what I'm doing? Scouring craigslist and asking my friends if they have stuff that they're not using. Yeah, it'll be all mismatched and look like crap, but guess what? My choices put me here, so I get to suck it up until I learn how to manage my finances better.

Is there still an active link to his GoFundMe page?

Also, this is from the 'about me' section of his profile;

Yeah, I quickly found it in my email. It's still open btw, even after saying he would close it once it reached a certain number. Too bad the homeless thread has been banished, could find the direct quote.

Start a gofundme. That seems like surefire way to get back on track

Does the guy not have a conscience?

Reading through the messages people left on his GoFundMe page...just makes me sad/angry that he would take advantage of all of us.

Well it's not a dire situation by any means haha. I'm still gainfully employed and can afford my tuition, rent, food, etc. Just meant that there are ways to save if one is inclined to do so.

I didn't donate, but what happened to the money that people did donate?

Did it go to a specific bank account? Did each of you just send a check to an address that he provided? Or something else.

I'm curious how the mechanics of the donation worked, especially since (I presume) most were donating in Canadian funds and he received US funds.

Plus, I'm just wondering how easy it would be to track the guy down based on the donation mechanics. If a person has no qualms scamming a couple grand from people off of the internet, such a person probably isn't too honest with the government either. I hear that qui tam and tax fraud whistleblower actions can be pretty rewarding....

Well that's a kick in the ass for sure. I'm really ticked that I gave him money, especially US dollars. What a POS

Now can we mock his shaved legs and ankle tattoo?

Same here. I guess I should have said something to save Locke from spending his millions.

It sucks because it just makes me cynical and suspicious of every one of these that I see. I've donated to a few and probably will again. I'll keep listening to that voice in my head and be ever vigilant.

To me it seemed legit at first because it was suggested to him to make a gofundme, and he claimed he didn't even know how to. Then when he set it up, I was like OK no prob. Help a brother out.

Knowing that he lied about knowing how to do the gofundme crap, now leads me to believe he was fishing for funds the entire time, and it wasn't just a good will thing. He manipulated quite a few folks.

He had every chance to come here and clarify, and he did not.
