Got a $500 Best Buy gift certificate for Christmas and was thinking about picking up a lower end model with a cam to play around with but after doing some research I'm not so sure. It seems like all the good places you'd want to go use these things around Calgary, you can't. They're apparently prohibited in Provincial Parks, which I thought was ridiculous until I read the posts in this thread about the firefighters, helicopters and water bombers. Other places like the community beach in the summer or pond hockey games in winter would be fun, but then I think about people freaking out about privacy invasion or losing their temper like buddy at the dog park.

As fun as I think a quadcopter would be, it doesn't seem worth the hassles. Maybe if you're doing some professional videography work and have permission to fly in these places, but as a recreational thing? I just don't know now.

To clarify, I think drones are awesome. Flew one around my buddy's ranch a while back. What an awesome hobby gadget.

I just think that you should require a license to fly them over public property and that some areas should be outright restricted (roadways for one).

That's quite the 180 from your earlier comment

Ban them within city limits. They're annoying to listen to, a privacy issue, and a potential hazard.
