I was reading again, and wish that I would have kept the link, that the Liberals went to this conference with Harpers reduction numbers that go to 2030, I think, going off of memory.

So either Harper was a staunch environmentalist, or a realist in terms of reduction targets, and the Liberals agreed with that.

When you look at that, the 300 delegates being sent over and Trudeau's boost that Canada's back yet continuing the same old thing, he came across to me as a little foolish.

Even the results of this conference were the same old, with a agreement that has no way of binding.

To be fair, I don't think anyone with a cursory knowledge of Canadian political history expected there to be monumental differences between the Conservatives and the Liberals, but the hope was that the Liberals would at least rely on evidence vs. ideology for their policy decisions, and so far this appears to be the case.

Didn't catch the guys name but he is part of the Copenhagen think tank on climate change and was named in the top 100 of world thinkers. He was on QR77 this morning and the bottom line for him was that this treaty is essentially useless.

He mentioned that if all 200 signees actually achieve their emission goals, it would amount to 1% of what the needed goal is to prevent the global temperature from rising 2 degrees. All this at a cost of 1 trillion dollars. All for nothing more than to feel good about doing something rather than nothing.

What he did advocate was to take 10% of that 1 trillion and invest it in r&d in technology to replace what is consumed now with fossil fuels. And in fact, that happening would lower emissions by way more and cost 900 billion dollars less.

Carbon taxing simply does nothing to lower emissions to any degree that matters but certainly can paralyze an economy and all needlessly. Something Trudeau and company are hell bent on doing.

Quite the eye opener actually and hope they podcast it later.

Edit:

Here is the podcast...starts about 90 seconds in.
