"Evander, you're being an a**hole" "You just hate me cuz I'm black!" "Ummmm..."

Who is really perpetuating the issue of race here? Again, I'm sure he's experienced pretty much anywhere he's gone, but it's not an excuse to act like a dbag and apply the race card to everyone who dislikes you. When you act like a dbag, people hate you for that, not because of the color of your skin.
I think this could be a result of the racism he has experienced growing up, playing hockey and then in the NHL. Young guy with a chip on his shoulder and black. I will never know what it's like to be in that situation.

Yeah I get that, and me neither. But there are plenty of black players that have gone through all the same (and worse, coming from an older generation) and seemed to get through it okay without being a total prick. In fact, it seems like most other black NHL players have the exact opposite attitude.

Being the victim of racism does not give him the right to apply that label to anyone who dislikes him.

He grew up in BC not Mississippi, I find it hard to believe racism was a big enough issue growing up to cause him to be a complete jerk, he's just an ass, doesn't matter what colour he is.

You're making up his life history based merely on the fact that he's black. That's racist in itself. Maybe you should pull the beam out of your own eye before criticizing the rest of us.

It makes a difference though, Winnipeg being one of, if not the poorest major city in Canada. The standard of life in Winnipeg is not excellent, then you see that guy showing off his fat stacks...he made an ass of himself. He probably would have gotten away with it in Vancouver or New York or elsewhere.
That aside, I don't completely disregard that he might have felt like he was out of place because of his race or his persona. But that's not why people didn't like him in Winnipeg. It's because he's a jackass. I don't think that we aren't gonna hear new stories about Kane just because he's in Buffalo now. He needs to grow up, and he clearly doesn't realize it.

And I don't think anybody is relating his persona to that of a rapper, so perhaps you need to look at your own stereotyping and what it says about you. A lot of people view Kane as something of a goof, and very much a "me first" player.

Has Kane faced down some racism in his professional career? Almost certainly. Is racism the root of why he is such a disliked figure? Nope. Not in the slightest.
Seriously? You think I'm a racist because I pointed out something that was an obvious parallel of what people relate his persona to?

And I didn't say that he's disliked because of his race. I think most would say he's an idiot because of how he acts. What I'm saying is he's likely sticking out more because of his race. Right or wrong, it's likely true. Oh, and I'm a minority so ease up on the pointing fingers if you haven't experienced it directed at you at points in your life.

Exactly. He's treated differently because of how he behaves... Not because he is black.

Hey Evander,

Maybe you should have tried to get along with your teammates better instead of worrying about a feature that technically doesn't exist.

I wonder if Kane actually pushes this victim thing to motivate himself, knowing full well that "racism" is essentially non-existent in the NHL?

It's no secret that guys lose motivation throughout careers. Maybe this is what he does to stay motivated? Him against the White Man.

Laughable statement. How could you possibly know this? Racism isnt necessarily overt in this day in age. In fact it's deeply embedded in practically every institution. Almost invisible. I'm sick and tired of people acting like racism is dead. It's alive and well its just more insidious now which might actually make it worse than ever.

Oh yes I am sure black folks all over North America are pining for the days where they were owned by whites and whipped for the hell of it or when they weren't considered full people and couldn't vote or maybe its those glory days of the first half of the 20th century when they were hung for looking at white people the wrong way or drinking from the white fountains.

You're right the "insidious" nature of racism makes this time much worse for black people.

PK Subban "coincidentally" got a lot of grief for doing things other players do too.

no, I'm not digging back through time to dig up posts and media quotes about what a hot dog he was, or his bad attitude. It happened, if you want to pretend it didn't until you see "evidence", that's your choice.

Worse than ever eh? So you think Jets management/coaching said things like "Kaner we WANT to put you on the powerplay but the bossman owner says we can't cos you black. Sorry boy"

Just name one plain Jane situation in the NHL where racism is "embedded" or noticeable at all. Just one example will suffice.

I don't need to pretend anything I know it didn't which is why you can't come up with examples.
