Reading up on some Lightning boards, and Stamkos hasn't played very well this year in their opinions.
Most saying he was good last game, but not playing like an elite player in the others.
Of course, some also think it would cost Monahan, Giordano, Bennett, and a 2016 1st

That's precisely the problem. The name and hype is bigger than what the player actually is. I don't want to pay 9 or 10 mil per year for this guy because he scored 60 goals 5 years ago on a different team. Save the big payouts for your own homegrown talent after a cup ffs.

This guy didn't just "score 60 goals 5 years ago", he scores at a 50 goal/year pace consistently. Look, I love Bennett as much as the next guy, but you'd have to be delusional to think he'll have the same impact on a team that Stamkos does. He's only 25 too, it's not like he's some old bum now. I don't get how anyone can oppose trading for him under the right conditions.

No to trading away our first. It'd be a lot like the islanders trading a first for moulson.

I would accept a Bennett for Stamkos deal, but I wouldn't give our first. You still need those entry level deals on good players in order to build a winner.

Moulson =/= Stamkos....
However, he's a UFA at the end if the season. Unless already signed, that's a strong no from me to trading much. The season's almost at write off territory and all that for a season with Stamkos is silly

No deal for him is worth it without him signing. We'd be stupid to trade for him without a 100% guarantee that he won't walk at the end of the season.

Yes I know, I just don't think that Stamkos would re-sign here. If a reasonable contract was worked out, I'd be ok with it but not for a UFA.
It's funny that when you talk about trading one of our older guys for a younger guy people always bust out the "why take the boat, the mystery box could be anything...even a boat" but now it's the opposite.
Why trade Bennett for Stamkos, Bennett could have an amazing future, he could even turn out to be like Stamkos. Just saying...
