At this point, do the Flames have a decent defenceman to give up?

TJ Brodie is the closest one to decent so far.

I didn't want to put this in the GDT but can someone who watched a lot of Bruin hockey last year provide some perspective on Hamilton? I saw maybe half a dozen games and he wasn't that noticeable, in a good way. He looked great on the point and his skating skills were fantastic.

But he is looking god awful for us and atleast right now, I understand why the Bruins were reluctant to sign him to a huge contract.

I've had about all I can take of Wideman's defensive zone gaffs.

At the end of the day we have to give Dougie 10-15 games to really settle in. He has not looked good so far but is adjusting to a new system and team.

I think the Flames need to move on from Wideman or Russell (prefer to trade Wideman) reunite the Brodie-Gio pairing and play Hamilton on the second pair. He is only 22 which is so young for a Dman

You are right but I can see why the Bruins were not keen on the big contract. Johnny's going to be looking for $7 million based on what Hamilton is getting.

If it's Russell or Wideman, sure, but they should have done it in the offseason.

The fact we're struggling might hurt our bargaining power but whoever is looking at Wideman or Russell might be more desperate now than they were in the off season as well. It is still early so you essentially still get the player for the entire season. Luckily I don't see Treliving folding and making a bad deal just to make one.

Anyone looking at Wideman or Russell is walking out of the rink plugging their nose and making the stink face.

Wideman at least has the potential to score, but Russell (who seems to get a free pass from most) is horrific in all aspects of the game.

Maybe we should just put Russell in net, he makes better saves than both Hiller or Ramo do lol

Not sure, he's on a 2 ppg pace so in the AHL, lol it's only been 2 games.

He's had steady numbers since being drafted. Good size, good skater.. PWF.. whats not to like? Maybe he hates kittens.

Re Rychel, watched him for 4 years in Windsor - couldn't stand him as a player, it was cringeworthy, he's had a lot of luck, getting where he is from his name and his Dad.

Point I was making is that I don't think you would really get much better in the off season as opposed to now. Whoever is looking for a dman likely see it as an area of concern and maybe didn't feel the same type of concern in the off season.
