I lived in the beltline when I was in my mid 20s and it was great. Now that I have a family I would never consider living there.

In what world is Southwood a better neighbourhood than Haysboro? There's a reason Southland and Anderson LRT stations perennially have the most crime of any stations in the city. And presumably they don't factor in things like schools closing. I suppose it scores for proximity to amenities - which is is hilarious. You don't see a lot of people crossing the LRT tracks on foot to go shopping up and down Macleod Trail.

Even though I think this list is garbage, as someone who has lived in both communities(currently reside in southwood) I would have to say that I find southwood to be a better neighbourhood to live in. Haysboro is a nice and quiet place, but I think that it is so quiet because there is simply nothing there, no real amenities. You would need to cross the train tracks or a major roadway to get to a grocery store, pub or bank. Plus southwood also has a few daycares which makes it more appealing to young families. I also think the fact that it is bordered by 2 roads that connect with deerfoot and one that will connect with the ring road also tips the scale in southwood's favour. I wouldsay that haysboro's community centre and hockey rinks are definitely better than southwood's, but as far as day to day living I would choose southwood over haysboro.
Just my 2 cents

None of the neighborhoods I've lived in made the cut (Hawkwood, Spruce Cliff, Redstone).

Having lived in Canyon Meadows, Braeside, Acadia, Connaught, Manchester, Beddington, Huntington Hills, Citadel, Arbour Lake, Edgemont, Dalhousie and Ranchlands I have to say these rankings are really wierd. How Ranchhood made the list and Canyon Meadows didn't is baffling.

^Good lord, what on Earth do you do for a living that has resulted in you living so many different places? And how did you manage to avoid finding a place you liked enough to stick with? Calgary may just not be for you at this point.

^^ maybe just been in Calgary a long time? Got me thinking about my neighborhood history. Braeside, Lake Bonavista, Willoe Park, Bankview, Connaught, Mount Pleasant, North Glenmore Park, Altador, Beltline and Glendale. I qualify for unofficial living in Chaparral and Renfrew as well.

Yeah, spend your 20s renting and it's not hard to rack up a long list. I've lived in Oakridge, Cedarbrae, South Calgary, Altadore, Glamorgan, Sunalta, Connaught, Killarney, and Haysboro.

I thought you spend your 20's renting different places in the same 2 or 3 communities? Who rents a place in the burbs when your 20?

Yeah, I went downtown west to Kensington to beltline back to Kensington... but my thing was more that you'd literally have to move once a year. Sounds exhausting!

Nothing like that really, grew up in a divorced family so during my teen years often had 2 homes and each parent moved quite a bit.

I have done Beddington, Huntington, Rocky Ridge and Bridgeland.
Huntington kind of confuses me on that list. I really didn't mind it, but everything for "amenities" is still just strip malls. It doesn't really have anything to write home about besides decent bus service and easy access to Deerfoot. The Nose Creek valley was fun to ride bikes around in, but lots of the spots that were so fun as kids became Beddington Trail and it's associated neighbourhoods.

Yikes ... it really does add up.

A list of the worst 'Hoods would likely be far more interesting, informative and objective.

I did. Could never find a place with a big enough garage anywhere else. Evergreen, McKenzie Lake, Airdrie and now own a place in Cranston

All of my friends lived in the deep south so living down town would have the opposite effect that it should for me.
What good is living downtown if everyone you know doesn't live downtown and refuses to go downtown outside of the weekend?
Now I own in the burbs so I'm committed!
Honestly I've never felt bored in the suburbs. There's plenty of food choices and bars, they just happen to be way less busy than their downtown counterparts. If you decide to go downtown then you hop in a cab with your buddies and you're there for like 10 bucks each.
