If he gets on a line with say Plekenec & Galchenyuk, and he's able to utilize his tremendous release, could be a bargain. I think injuries might be underrated factor in his decline. Still agree that it's obviously far from a given he succeeds there.

Good for Montreal they got a possibly good forward on the cheap and they need one. Calgary doesn't need one at least not of Semin's ilk so I'm glad we passed. For one years use, he'd be taking a spot away from players such as Jooris, Ferland or Colborne who haven't reached their peak yet.

He was flat out bad on Russian 2014 Olympics squad, with good linemates (he started with Ovechkin and Malkin, but got demoted to the third line as tourney went on) and being probably highly motivated. I think his ability/probability to bounce back is overrated and he's most likely done. That's why nobody offered him more that 1x1.1, I guess.

His phone conference call after signing was so awesome. Worth 1M just for that

Agreed; particularly with the part I bolded.

True.

But GMs have gambled on far lesser players for 1.1 x 1.

This guy could score 45 goals for you next year. Or he could score 7.

1.1 isn't the worst deal, and like I said earlier in the thread, I would not be upset one iota if BT got him at 1x1.1.

Low risk, exceptionally high reward.

Flames should have signed him to a one year deal and traded him at deadline for a 2nd.

I think he'll be next season's Setoguchi. He's had some terrific seasons but can't see him coming close to those

Edit: But not as horrible as Setoguchi
