Everyone mentions the Philly game, but what really excited me was Jokinen's play against the Leafs soon after (next game?).

3:44 shows the goal that REALLY got me pumped.

The return of Conroy from LA.

Tanguay from Colorado, because I was at that draft.

And now, the Hamilton trade is right up there.

Honorable mention for when the Flames traded Andrei Zyuzin and Ales Kotalik.

Agreed with lots of the Sutter era ones that were listed. Funny to see how they all worked out in the end.

How about bringing Conroy back - I remember being super pumped and it's worked out pretty well with him moving into management. Less of a he's going to light the world on fire and we're going to win the cup way than some of the others but was pretty exciting to bring him back.

I am too young to remember most of the good Flames trades from the 80s. I'm guessing the Lanny McDonald trade would have been very exciting at the time.

Unfortunately there are not too many to choose from in recent history. Kipper is one of the best ever though and Hamilton has the potential to be. Other good deals were Simon, Huselius, Russell, Colborne, Berra, and Glencross.

Jokinen gets my vote for most exciting at the time. It was thought the Flames finally found that number 1 centre to play with Iginla and the initial results were amazing. Unfortunately things didn't work out and considering the bad asset management of Jokinen later this wasn't a good trade. I still remember hearing Sutter on the radio at the time talking about how it was okay to trade 1st round draft picks because the franchise now had a deep prospect pool. Ugh.

It wasn't exactly a case of futures ‘turning into’ Regehr. As part of the trade, the Flames had their pick of any one of the Avs' first-round picks the previous year, except Tanguay. That meant they could choose one of Martin Skoula, Robyn Regehr, or Scott Parker. This was public information. I recall at the time, some people were saying they chose the wrong one.

Jokinen trade for me. My first ever Flames game was that Philly game the day after, they scored 4 times in the first period with Jokinen getting 2 of them, talk about exciting. That building cleared out pretty quickly. I thought for sure that they would be in the finals that year. Seeing them cough up the division to the Canucks that season was really painful to watch.

The Hamilton trade is a close second for me though, I still can't believe we got him for a couple of picks.

I could not belive we stole Wade Belak
I needed this trade to happen before I became a Flames fan. So I guess I was pretty excited about it to.

I have been thinking about this topic more recently and here is how I rank them

1- Dougie Hamilton (I still can't believe it happened. This is a game changer, the flames add the exact piece they were missing in their rebuild.)
2- Trade deadline 2009 (the experts said we needed a top center and top 4 D and we went out and got the rumored big body center and a familiar Dman to a team that looked poised to win the division and go deep)
3- Tanguay 2006 (Flames struggled to score the year before, they won the Jennings, Kipper won the Vezina but the team had no offense and was bumped In round 1. Nucks made a big play for Luongo the day before and Calgary answered by picking up a 26 year old RFA and paired him with 28 year old Iginla)
4- Cammy 2012 (Flames had not won a trade since the first time the acquires Cammy in 2009. Getting Cammy back right before a game against the Ducks was so exciting. The team appeared to be close to a playoff spot and dumped Borque in the process. This was the only deal Feaster made that had me extremely happy and excited)
5- Cammy 2009 (I wondered what the Flames were going to do after trading Tanguay for picks. When they turned their own first into Cammy I was very excited at his potential and thought he was a better fit than the past first Tanguay.
6) - Conroy 2007 (bringing Connie back was a feel good trade and he played an important role)

What an amazing goal, I remember that one like it was yesterday. Probably top 3 favourite Flames goals of all time. Yes there is lots of key play off goals, Gelinas, Lanny, etc. However for sheer wow factor, that flip the puck over the d man and knock in the net. I still remember how badly I lost my mind.

I think this one game was right after the famous Philly game. Those two games fooled me so badly Flames were the team to beat in the West hands down.

When Sutter traded for Kipper everyone thought it was a dumb deal. No one knew him or how good he would become.

Ha, that's my cousin cheering in the stands immediately after the Jokinen goal.

That was a crazy game!

Lanny with his 66 in 82-83 and 500 career goals would disagree with you. He was as pure goal scorer as we ever had on the Flames. Famous for his one timers from the left faceoff circle.

Flames Most Exciting Trades in Flames History?

October 1, 2002.

Definitely Drury, it was the beginning of the turn around with Calgary actually trading for the better player after so many years of witnessing the great players from the 1990's Flames core dismantled, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Fleury, Suter, MacInnis, Vernon

I remember being quite excited when the Flames brought back Carey Wilson. He was a favorite of mine as a young kid, so when they brought him back - I thought it was pretty cool. I recall he scored an overtime goal in one of his games back - I think against the Jets.

The trade was Mark Hunter for Carey Wilson to be specific.

You must've hated the Jiri Hrdina trade to the Pens hey?

The Lanny trade made the biggest splash of all the trades mentioned, when it happened. I remember it was headline news in the news section, not the sports section. IMO, it wasn't as impactful for the team as several others.
