Shaw is ridiculous . . . . They need to trim the fat at the top and stop providing dumb reasons to jack up prices.

I'm thinking about ditching TV all together - it's nuts just to have a basic package at the rate they're charging at.

Prices go up based on demand, not cost. If people will pay it, they'll charge it

So more than a 101 US cities are now pledging to build their own Gigabit fiber networks to fight the rip off rates Telcos are charging. Why can't Calgary or a major metro do this?

Trenches would not be a problem in when the city owns lots.

I don't know much about the technology side but wouldn't it be better if we had say 300 gigs of data we can use between our devices on lte? We don't have to worry about finding WiFi, we're always connected and its almost at the same speeds as WiFi.

Data is getting cheaper or so it seems. Seems like that would be the way of the future instead of running individual lines and modems to every household.
