Hunter Smith wins. Leon Draisaitl loses.

Excellent.

Hunter Smith had a GoPro camera on his head to capture all the moments but took it off for the handshake. Little classy move.

Smith just actually said "I knew it was a high stick...".

I don't follow junior all that much (not really at all) but that was a hell of a game. That Cirelli kid looks like he's 12.

And he defeated Connor McDavid in the OHL finals too!

Based on tonight's game, I'm really happy Calgary didn't take Dal Colle. He really didn't do much for me at all.

Yeah for sure.

He's going to have some good footage of the ceiling too, if anyone ever wants to recreate Le Colisee.

With the goals in the Mem cup, I could see Cirelli going in the late second round. I hope it's not us though. (He's ranked 67th)

I wouldn't have wanted them to take Dal Colle either, but to come to that conclusion based off of only one game is pretty silly.

From what I've seen of him, he isn't a star but he's always making the right play. Kind of reminds me of a bigger Klimchuk.

Draisaitl was tournament MVP:

@TheChrisWescott: #Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl wins the Stafford Smythe Trophy as 2015 Memorial Cup MVP. 4 goals & 3 assists in the tournament.

When do we have to have Smith signed by since he was drafted as a 19 year old? Do we have to sign him by tomorrow?

All CHL players rights are lost on the 2nd June 1st after he is drafted.

So they don't lose him tomorrow as long as they do have to give him a bonafide offer to retain his rights.

So June 29th? Seems weird that he wouldn't be eligible to re-enter the draft.

edit - saw sureloss's post after

I knew that was the case for the guys drafted in their first year of eligibility, I thought maybe he would have fallen in the same group as Eric Roy since he was in his second year of eligibility.

Ken Appleby looks like a better undrafted UFA signing than Matt O'Connor IMO.

No it doesn't matter what age they are drafted (except there is an exception for 22 year olds)

you can draft 21 and 22 year olds? I didn't even know that was allowed.
