Why would anyone even bother to interview McDavid? He's going to Edmonton, 100%.

In 2015 yes. But I can see a team like the Rangers interviewing him and telling him about how great it will be to become a UFA in a real city and play in MSG etc etc. in 7 years

Maybe covering the bases, get a feel about where his head's at in hopes maybe (although very unlikely) he pulls a Lindros. Try and leave an impression on him for any possible future transactions. Can't really see the downside.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread but I would imagine the teams also interviewing him want to ask questions about Strome or other team mates.

Why not interview McDavid if you can schedule him in.
He might not (hopefully will not) be an Oiler forever, never hurts to lay the foundation for a positive relationship.

On the flipside it also sends a message to Eichel that he's their guy "we didn't even bother interviewing McDavid". Even though we all know that it's just posturing.

The players I wish the most the Flames could get in the 2nd round are three of Beauvillier, Spencer, Vande Sompel, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Erik Foley, and Guillaume Brisebois.
All of those guys are rated to be in the 45-53 range except Brisebois who is ranked as an early 3rd but looks a lot like Brandon Hickey in how he plays.

Looking at Button's rankings he has Kyle Conner ranked at 6 and Zach Werenski ranked at 7. McKenzie meanwhile has Conner ranked at 13 and Werenski ranked at 11. Considering Craig Button often seems to have some insight into what the Flames are doing could these be two players the Flames are targeting?
Brock Boeser could be another as Button ranks him at 9 whereas McKenzie has him at 26. Ek and Merkley could also be candidates.
Anyways there doesn't seem to be much indication of who the Flames will pick so I'm doing some reaching.

I think the best thing about the combine is all the gm's/upper management that can talk trade while there!

Exactly this. He is no one's property at this point so it isn't tampering to talk to him and upsell him on your club.
McDavid can position himself to be a free agent when he is 25, and will be an RFA before that. Might as well get some face time with him now.
