Too bad the neighbour didn't get ahold of them at some point during the 3 days of mayhem or even after they saw the party bus pull up. "Uhhh, you may want to get back to your house. And call the cops."

They were told by police that a hazardous materials crew would have to come in and inspect the home before they could start cleaning it up.
On Wednesday, companies trained to deal with biohazards visited the home and told the King family that “everything that goes out of our home, even what goes to the landfill, needs to be treated as a biohazard,” King said.
The Kings also spoke with insurance adjusters, who told them they’re looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the home back to livable condition.
The home was still in a state of total disrepair on Wednesday when the Kings invited media to see what had happened. Food, garbage and cigarette butts could be found in nearly every room. A film of unidentifiable fluids covered most surfaces, women’s lingerie was strewn about the second floor and condoms and wrappers were found throughout the house.
“With that kind of liberal body fluids, they don’t know where the cross contamination has been,” King said.
“The amount of sex that happened in our home is just …” she added, trailing off.

Personally, I would not put my home up for rent for short term tenants and these websites (case and point here).
Conversely, I would probably be the first person to rent from these sites when I'm traveling.

Airbnb has told CBC News that the King family will be reimbursed through its Host Guarantee insurance, which provides up to $1 million "to eligible properties in the rare event of guest damages which are not resolved directly with the guest."
The company also says it's offering full assistance to law enforcement in the investigation of the incident.
Calgary police are investigating and estimate the damage is more than $50,000.
"In the 27 years of policing that I've done, I've never seen a home so badly damaged from a weekend party, and of course, with this kind of rental situation," said Staff Sgt. Jim Leung.
Leung says police are trying to locate the man who originally rented the property and intend to charge him with mischief over $5,000 for causing damage to the property.

My girlfriends cousin rents out his condo every weekend in Vancouver for the last year and a half to help pay his mortgage. He has not had a problem yet. He only rents to people that have used the service before and have good reviews from previous Airbnb "landlords". I don't think this owner did enough homework on who he was renting to. The renter is complete scum but these types of services have ways to gather information on renters past history with the service.

What I can't wrap my head around is that this looks like a very nice house. If you are in a position to own that place is 80-100 dollars really worth the potential downside? Any theft or damage immediately out weighs the upside.
And before i get the 1% jokes 100$ is nothing Compared to giving a stranger access to all of your life's possessions. I dont think i could be swayed at $1000. Sure if i had moved somewhere else and all of my possessions were gone then fine, but that is a totally different situation.

Well I think its highly unlikely that the renter has done anything like this before and its either gone unnoticed or he never got caught.
It seems more likely that this was just a normal renter who flew off the handle this time.

I saw on Twitter today the people who caused the damage also used fake credit cards to pay for everything.

I wonder how much cash the lead guy walked away with (assuming the point if this whole thing was to get paid and not just organize a wild party). Fake credit cards, party bus of people waiting to go on a sex/drug binge... I don't think you do all that without getting a pretty big payout...

If that is what you have to resort to, to pay your mortgage, sorry, you bit off way more than you can chew.
The thought of strangers humping in my bed, peeing in my shower, picking their nose and wiping it under my couch cushion, scratching their crack then touching my remote, rubbing one off in my lazy boy..... ewww. Not worth any amount of money that doesn't have at least 5 zeros behind it.
