How hipster are you? You even use the phrase organic to describe your experience 11 years ago. Go frost your tips if you love 2004 so much.
This season is as natural as any other sporting team in the playoffs. Car flags, appropriate colors schemes to match the home team, partying.
As for the thread title. Yeah, just relax with pressing women (and girls) to show their bodies, it's gross. Apologies to CorsiHockeyDude if any of this isn't the exact text book definitions.

Dude. Get a grip.
Frosted tips were cool in like 2000. By 2004 they were pfffft.

That's true for pretty much everything. The first pre-game tailgate parties were probably more impromptu and organic as well, but now they are part of the normal ritual.
A lot of the people enjoying the Red Mile now were probably too young at the time to participate, but grew up on the stories. It's like Woodstock 94. It will never be the same, but I'm glad it's a tradition.
But yeah, let's hope that it remains a positive thing for everyone and not just an outlet for drunkenness.

I didn't hear any chants or "take it off" or whatever. I didn't see anyone forced into doing it. It was always, from what I saw, a highly inebriated woman that decided to.
But if women feel as though they're being forced, that's wrong. Chants for them to flash or whatever are wrong. Those dudes are scum and need to go back to their flesh-lights.

Maybe you were lucky to miss it, but in '04 I personally witnessed on multiple occasions crowds of drunk men repeatedly chanting "Flames in six, show your tits!" and "Shirts off for Kipprusoff!" at the girls. While some of them seemed to like the attention and enjoyed being exhibitionists, there was definitely a peer pressure/cat calling/street harassment aspect to the Red Mile and you could tell not everyone was comfortable with it.

Thank God for this thread. I thought that the big hockey game tonight was all we were going to talk about here today. I was getting concerned that no one was going to go off on a sexual equality tanget on the Fire & Ice Board today, but alas, the day has been saved.

I judge all fashion in that era off Dion Phaneuf's 2003 draft photo.

Of course they are. Probably all women who wouldn't actually go party on the Red Mile but hey. They know best.

The post-2004 Red Mile is a joke anyways. The Flames haven't actually accomplished anything yet and people are out drunken partying in the streets. It's more about the party than the hockey team now.
In 04 it didn't start until the Detroit series and was just a cool, organic thing that happened. Now it's a forced effort from people out for the wrong reasons.

Plus, it's only a 7 minute walk (11 minute stumble) to Fames Central!

Olympic Plaza (area) is perfect for this, although it might be too small.
During '88 (Oh Yeah!) it was a great party down there during the medal ceremonies.

Likely half of them weren't even here in Calgary in 2004 - all imports. My guess is its just young people who go to 17th anyways and have another excuse to go for beer and be a bit louder.

Olympic Plaza should definitely have screens up. Set up beer tents too. Make it a party.

MMF nailed it on the head, this season is about as natural as 04 was, if not more natural. This team was pegged as a McDavid sweep stake contestant and instead they defied all odds to secure a spot in the playoffs.. and are now pushing for a chance at the second round.
If there is ever a right time for the fans to rally and show their support this is it and after this year there will be expectations.. so enjoy this run right now. Get out there and get on the red mile, get crazy (within the law!) and show this team why Flames fans are dubbed the most passionate hockey fans in the NHL. I was very impressed with the last two home games and multiple players were quoted saying that to them it was a difference maker. Keep that up.

Maybe, but he's being deliberately intellectually dishonest while putting words in my mouth. I'm not really inclined to treat that posting style with a ton of patience. If someone wants to discuss something genuinely I'm down.
Also, I'm pretty sure he was talking about hockey-related positions I've taken.

Well this is better then the knifing that happened on the copper kilometer during the Oilers run, and the burning down of the city in Vancouver/Montreal.
Anytime there is drunk guys and a party atmosphere this is going to happen, look at Mardi Gras, spring break, etc. Not saying it is right just that it is bound to happen and much better then violence or destruction of property.

And no, before you say that this is the equivalent of "she shouldn't dress like that" argument understand that it's nothing like that.
There is only going to be one outcome when you stand on a car trying to get a bunch of drunk peoples attention. It is a guarantee that they will expect you to do something stupid. If you're a girl, it's probably going to involve screaming for you to flash them and if you're a guy it'll probably be to do something physically dangerous.
It's the nature of drunk people. Articles like this need to stop making bad people out of people for wanting to have fun and celebrate (within the law).
Just so you know I only saw one creepy dude in a retro flames jersey yelling at girls to flash him on the 17th two nights ago. Not a single peep about Cans or "Monahans"(?) from anyone else.

How have I never seen that before, my god.
