So you're saying the professional coaching staff would only take some of those guys over Wotherspoon because those guys are new? See, I think they would watch them play this year in camp and preseason and base their decisions on how those players are performing today.
You saying that people are drawn to what's shiny and new is the same as me saying that people get sentimental and hate to cut ties to players who are passed on the depth charts.
You have to look at how players are playing today. Now. At this years camp and preseason. You can't say that Wotherspoon is a better choice because he's been here longer and he played more last year even though there are a few players playing better than him right now.
This year, right now, Wotherspoon has not played well. It's not that he's been bad but others have played better than him. Last year he was our best option (as limited as they were) but this year he isn't because players he was better than last year have stepped up their game. Players do that from time to time, and I hope Wotherspoon does that too because he seems pretty average and I hope he can turn it around and become awesome, he just isn't now.

Its early but Wotherspoon looks like he has taken a step backwards fitting in.

Last season he missed his chance because he was recovering from a shoulder injury. I've liked Wotherspoon since I saw him play in the World Juniors and later in Abbotsford. Maybe his problem is, if he has one is that he doesn't fit that well in Hartley's system and another team would be happy to get him.

I think Kulak is better than Wotherspoon, but that's not really his fault. Kulak's development has been far better than I imagined.

I think Wotherspoon will be traded. He hasn't been able to step up and force management's hands when there's been opportunity. Last chance here I would think.

Maybe next off-season, but I doubt he's moved this season. I don't think you can give up on someone with only two seasons in the AHL.

Why? There's no pressure to do so. Stockton needs him badly.

Funny.
People have already made conclusions from this preseason. From what I have seen and heard, Wotherspoon has performed quite well.
Let's sit back, relax and see what happens. I believe that Wotherspoon makes the team.

Wotherspoon played a lot of minutes tonight and was hardly noticeable, I would say that means he had a pretty good game.

I think that type of D is not long for the flames though.

Agreed I think he's been noticeably unnoticeable which is a good thing for the type of defenseman that he is. He looks calm and poised out there.

I liked Wotherspoon last game. His advantage is that Andersson is easy to demote but his disadvantage is that Kulak is good and Wilson may just get a job.

Maybe Wotherspoon ends up part of a deal when Treliving moves a goaltender.

Wotherspoon is playing good, he had lots of minutes last game (or at least appeared to, he seemed to be on the ice a lot). He played with a couple of different partners in different situations. He killed penalties with Morrison. Played powerplay with Kulak. And even strength with Andersson most of the time. I thought he made smart plays and kept his cool under pressure.
I think he makes the jump and plays in and out as a seventh D.

I think the Flames would rather have an established veteran as the seventh D, not a young player that would get top minutes in the AHL.

He has to go from top minute guy in the AHL to bottom minute guy in the NHL sometime. Not to mention you want guys in the AHL to move up as well. You want them to go from the middle minutes to the top minutes that Wotherspoon would have had. That's why I think he could be in and out of the line up with that veteran 7th man....but what do I know.

Sure, but it's better to do that when he has learned everything he can learn from playing in the AHL. The Flames' staff obviously don't think Wotherspoon is past that stage yet.
