Joe Colborne was -5 tonight

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
In #NHL debut, #Flames @SBennett93 played C in 1st period, LW in 2nd and 3rd, had 1 assist, 1 shot, was -1 in 16:00. I was quite impressed.

Thought Bennett, Ferland, and Jooris all played well today. Bennett is so competitive, that drive is great to watch.

Ferland seems to have taken a step. Bouma's injury gave him an opportunity and he's doing everything right so far. Great to see him battle Byfuglien all game.

Jooris is great when he's playing at full speed. I'm a bit worried after he blocked a hard shot with his forearm near the end there. Hope he's okay.

Wotherspoon was really solid to start and faded as the game went on. Too bad, but with that being said I generally liked what Schlemko and Potter did out there.

Guys who didn't have good showings: Poirier, Wolf, Raymond, and Ortio.

Thought Colborne looked strong, as did Stajan.

Kulak was pretty good up until that terrible giveaway. Good experience for him to get in the game. Ramage did some good things out there too.

Tough to judge that game since it was almost like a shinny game. Great shot by Stempniak.

Ramage: I thought he had a pretty good game, i'm kinda surprised cause he's not one of our more heralded prospects. Everyone loves the offensive guys, but I thought Ramage was better than Kulak, which he should be seeing as he is older and has more pro experience. I think he's the 8th defenceman for the playoffs after Wotherspoon.

Kulak: Was decent and didn't see as much of his skating skills as I would have liked to see. I think he needs at least a full year of seasoning in the AHL before he's in the NHL. Can't see him getting any games in the playoffs if injuries hit, dón't think he's ready for that type of game.

Wotherspoon: Again was decent and didn't look out of place. It's hard to tell with defencemen because a lot of times, when they get scored on its not necessarily their fault, it could be a dumb turnover by a forward earlier in a sequence that causes it. Either way, thought he moved the puck well and obviously has good size and strength.

Poirier: Was a bit dissapointed with him as I really wanted to see more. Wanted to see him use his speed on the forecheck, to drive wide and attack the net, but he really just coasted through the whole game, not what you want to see from one of your top prospects. He was really Sven like. Not sure if he got benched or suffered a minor injury cause don't recall seeing much of him in the third.

Wolf: much more engaged than Poirier, battled well in the corners. Needs to work on his balance. Thought he looked better in his earlier call up.

Shore: didn't do anything to earn a spot in the line up for Game 1. Supposedly a possession monster, but haven't seen a lot of that.

Colborne was a minus 5, ouch.

The anti-truculant crowd here hates on him all the time, but I'm really liking Engelland's game right now. Keeps things simple, is strong and physical, and is really not a bad skater. I think at this stage in their careers, I'd rather have him than Regher.
oops.

If nothing else, this game showed we have some keepers.
Bennett showed he will be a standout for us. Just don't think he will crack the
playoff roster. But I think he will stick as an injury replacement.
Ferland will be a great player for us
Ortio Played a solid game until he ran out of gas
Wotherspoon made a case for next year and I think He should stay with the big club
Kulak needs time in the minors
Don't know what happened to Poirier did he get injured?
Ramage will be a player for us
Wolf didn't show enough I think.
Potter shouldn't with the big club.
What this game showed me is that this team is a team on the cusp, just not quite
there yet. Many beers this afternoon but man, I am so excited about our future.

Colborne: yikes! Maybe I'm grasping here, but I am having trouble placing him on many of the goals against. Bad luck I think (though -5 is tough to explain away).

Bennett: only 1 shot? Seemed like he had a couple.

I'm going to call a spade a spade. I thought everyone looked horrible, yes, including Bennett. Oh well, move on.

Hard to be to upset when our entire first line, and pretty much entire D core took the night off.

It is what it is. Hope Anaheim loses so that Jets get the Blues.

I don't understand how people could think bennett had a bad game he was lined up against the jets #1 d pairing in his first NHL game. Imagine if we had our #1 line to deal with byfuglien and playing bennett against weaker competition with better line mates.

If there's any game where the +- stats tell a lie, this would be it regarding #8.

The -5 for Colborne today was mostly simply rotten luck of being on the ice at the wrong time. None of the goals against were his fault. Colborne I thought was good today in spite of the ####ty +-.

In other news, apparently the ADK Flames dominated the Winnipeg Jets in possession. So we only lost because they rode an unsustainable PDO.

Most relaxing loss ever. AHL rosters competing against each other. Whatever, playoffs!!

Imagine having to play the Jets in this afternoon game in order to make the playoffs. The outcome would have been heartbreaking.

I definitely thought we controlled possession for most of the first two periods. We didn't have a ton of super scoring chances but we controlled play for sure.

Only caught the 1st period but thought Bennett played well. Think Wotherspoon should be on the team next year too.

Surprised Colborne was a minus -5, that's crazy. I got back home and checked out a couple shifts in the 3rd and Colborne had a beautiful rush and I thought he looked great.
