That's the episode that my mom references as to why she had to stop watching X-files. I still remember watching it with my wife and thinking it was the most disturbing thing I'd seen on TV.

It seems like whoever was in charge of censoring fell asleep at the wheel that day. It was banned from all re-airings on network television, and the only episode of x-files ever banned. You can see it on Netflix though.

Interesting that they threw much of the last nine seasons' primary story lines right out the window. I'm curious to see where they take things.

After watching both The Fall and Hannibal recently, and then this, I've decided that Gillian Anderson is just a terrible actress.
I really liked her in The Fall and Hannibal. Probably because she is a drop-dead smokeshow.

One of my room-mates at UBC was a set decorator on the X-Files back in the 1990s. He was offered the job to be Gillian's personal assistant and turned it down. Fool. I would have been her intern for free.

Heheh.

Yeah I have a few friends with X-Files stories from when they were filming in Van and even one from one of the episodes they filmed here in Calgary (I think there were three? Two for sure, but coulda been three to five). But none that good. A friend did get to meet David and Gillian though. They were filming in thrme warehouse/hangers here at the Calgary International Airport.

Tonight's episode was awesome. A great twist to a classic monster story.

Great performance by Rhys Darby.

Just finished episode 3... I just don't get these quirky comedy episodes like we started to see around season 6 or 7. Sorry, just bad imo. Hated the change of direction the first time around- haven't changed my thoughts now. Oh well, a decent second episode and so so first episode.

I enjoyed the Lone Gunmen. Damn it, why did they cancel the spinoff??

That was a perfect light-hearted X-Files episode, which is understandable since it was written by the king of those types of X-Files episodes, Darin Morgan.

He wrote the classic episode Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, in which Peter Boyle plays a psychic who can foresee how people will die.

Quote:
Clyde Bruckman: You know, there are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified way than autoerotic asphyxiation.

Mulder: Why are you telling me that?

Clyde Bruckman: Look, forget I mentioned it. It's none of my business.
He also wrote Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space', which features a great performance from Charles Nelson Reilly, and has Alex Trebek and Jesse "The Body" Ventura as a couple of Men In Black.

Because they predicted a certain event in New York.

Speaking of the Gunmen, they're listed on IMDB in the 5th episode of the season (airing in two weeks).

Yeah I like how they've really embraced the classic X-Files tropes and put new modern-day twists to them. This was a fun episode for sure.

Also, a lizard working in a cell phone store? Telus should be all over that! Lifted right off of their Clearnet commercials lol

Scully wasn't given very many lines in 3.

But she did pretty good with the ones she had!

Probably just fun cause we never saw Scully like that, even if it wasn't true.

I really enjoyed the episode. The first half was some of the funniest television I've watched in a while (outside of Silicon Valley which is uproarious). The second half tailed a bit under its silliness, but was still very creative and made some points on modern life and the human condition.

Great episode.

I loved that episode, so much fun. Rhys Darby stole the show, great stuff, makes me want to watch Flight of the Concords again.

NSFW!

I don't remember the X-Files being comic relief like it was in Episode 3. I stopped watching before the end of it though so maybe it took a turn. That said, getting to see and hear Gillian Anderson getting mockingly taken to pound town made the watch worth it.

They'd do one goofy/parody episode a season generally. They did a few 'what-if' episodes too if I recall correctly. One at least.

As a few have mentioned, Jose Chungs: They Come from Outer Space, in season three was probably the most famous of these types of episodes. Like this one, it also made some comments on the human condition, or the different ways different people approach the same thing.

There was also a very funny one about vampires in season five or six. A vampire who won't behave like the rest of his kin has to use fake teeth to bite people.
