When did I say the NCAA is a superior league to the OHL? Those are your words and odd ones to boot. I will say that players coming out of NCAA at 21 or 22 years old tend to be more NHL ready than a 19 year olds fresh out of the OHL to begin their NHL rookie campaign.
Regarding Gaudreau & Horvat, they are not really the same type of player and are getting considerably different ice time as well. Gaudreau is having an outstanding rookie campaign and should win the Calder. He appears to be more naturally offensively gifted and, if all goes well, he will continue to be an offensive force for the Flames for years to come.
Horvat has done very well for the ice time that he has been afforded scoring 13 goals playing 706 mins (17 mins on the PP) with bottom six forwards. He is already Vancouver best face-off man and is used more as a 200 ft player in a checking role at the moment. In a couple of years, he will likely get top 6 minutes and be used on the PP.
Gaudreau has scored 20 goals playing 1258 mins (202 mins on the PP) with top six forwards. I'm not suggesting Horvat will become a better offensive player, but to suggest that "he will be lucky to score as many points as Johnny has right now in his prime let alone 2 years" is very short sighted.
