If nothing else, this gives them a warm body to play defence in practice.

Russell, Wideman, and Brodie will all likely be getting a lot of practices off over the next few weeks, so this at least gives Hartley someone to put on the ice.

Murray always played tough against the Flames. He was slow but rarely out of position, and he hits hard. Now, he's been out of the NHl for a while so I'm doubtful he can make any impact. But a no risk, decent move that could pay dividends down the road.

Plus it doesn't remove anyone from the baby Flames, who are in a fight to get into the playoffs themselves.

I thought he was a pretty solid depth addition by the Penguins in their playoff run during the lockout shortened season. Even scored a clutch goal IIRC.

Sweden allows immigration as well.

Murray = BIG!

BIG! = probably too slow in this day and age.

I heard he's 1-for-1 on shootout attempts and has a stamp already.

I don't mind the move. It gives the Flames an extra option if needed in case of injuries. It's not like its an either or thing with the option to go with a kid from the farm. Like what you see from the kids? Bring them up. Not ready for the big time? See how Murray does. Why not keep as many options open as possible?

I agree holistically, but Diaz was a disaster against the Ducks the other night IMO. But overall, he's been fine.

Hopefully just needed a body for practices, since our D block 100 shots a game and need more maintenance days.

On Murray's tryout, Treliving says "that's really all it is". Going to see if he could potentially join them down the stretch. #Flames

The story I remember hearing is that his mother is Swedish but his father is Irish, and when they started their family, his mother thought it would sound weird to give her children traditional Swedish first names, so she suggested they chose Irish first names.

So, he's half Swedish, half Irish, born and raised in Sweden but has an Irish first name to go with his Irish surname.
