If you have a surplus of D-Man (which is another assumption I made) and need a top 6 forward… Why would they not make that deal? Neither player has any term on their contract.

You still haven't given much of a reason for why it wouldn't work for them if Washington picks up a top 4 d-man. Quantity over Quality is not much of a basis for an argument.

Also, Washington doesn't need another top for 4 dman as they already have 4 of those.

Ol' Matheson in Edmonton seems to think the oilers could get a 1st + prospect for Petry now after the Sekera trade. I don't see it happening:

In dealing a first-round pick and solid defensive prospect Roland McKeown to the Carolina Hurricanes for defenceman Andrej Sekera, The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson believes that the asking price for Oilers d-man Jeff Petry could rise significantly.

Lowe knows a thing or two about winning. That includes winning trades!

If a team views him as a 2nd pairing guy, I could easily see it. Anything resembling defensive depth is the golden chalice this season.

Chicago might feel like they may have to make a trade like that after LA landed Sekera.

Could see Detroit going after him. They need D, from Detroit, have been aching for a RHD for ages.

I would be shocked if any team outside Edmonton sees him as a 2nd pairing guy. He's barely an NHLer and hurts you more than helps.

Brennan goes back to the Marlies where he had a great season last year. 72 points as a dman.

Come on now. I think a lot of teams see him as a second pair 3/4 guy.

Is it often that something comes up from all of this scouting. I really don't see why Flames would scout either team.

A little over the top. He's only a 1 or 2 in Edmonton because of their horrendous depth on D but most teams probably view him as an effective 3 or 4 on a decent team I'd imagine.

What are they scouting? Treliving should know that team like back of his hand.

Some sort of massive deal where we end up getting Mike Smith's awful contract in return for some sweet assets.

Better be sweet. Woof, that contact is brutal!
