Stajan seems like a mellow quality of life loving guy. Coyotes can offer him that.

Not sure who else is out there that fits that description, but it's usually the kind of thing that doesn't necessarily make the papers.

icon57 Flames Forward Depth

If all three of Glencross, Raymond & Stajan were to be dealt the Flames would appear to have adequate forward depth even with Bollig sitting and Byron injured, plus whatever came back to Calgary...

Bouma – Backlund – Jones
Gaudreau – Monahan – Hudler
Baertschi – Colborne – Jooris
Ferland – Granlund – Poirier
Shore - Reinhart - Wolf

I'm not sure it will affect us much... Hudler,Gio, Russell, Backlund, Wideman and Jones is still a fair amount of veterans to round out the youngsters...

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Baertschi-Bennett-Poirier
Bouma-Backlund-Jones
Ferland-Colborne-Jooris
Byron/Granlund/Shore

Could trade Stajan to Toronto. Sucks for him teamwise but being his home it is not such a prick move even though he and his wife are having a kid.

Wouldn't Stajan's baby actually improve the Leafs?

I wonder what value Stajan has if the Flames take a big chunk of his salary?

I suspect it's fairly high to be honest.

Raymond i'm not so sure about, but again, if we retain a chunk of the salary (a bigger chunk), I suppose there may be value there.

Stajan at a cap hit of 1.75 is a very attractive player.
Raymond at 1.5... to a team like Winnipeg or Arizona where they have trouble attracting players, that could work as well.

I really have trouble with this, I just don't see either player having any value for another team. What would we possibly get in return?

Stajan at a lower cap hit is a depth centre any playoff bound team would want. Just for faceoff alone, let alone PK ability, and just basic defensive stability and veteran presence.

Raymond maybe not.

But I just don't see it happening in the season.

I think when both Stajan and Raymond missed the NY Rangers and NJ Devils, Kypreos is speculating the Flames are sitting them out so they can trade them but in truth Kypreos probably know both players' wives are due to deliver baby anytime soon.

Trading those guys makes sense. They were signed as fillers but have been passed by kids in the depth chart sooner then expected. We don't need them going forward, and in fact they are taking up a roster spot that could be better used.

Also, Treliving and Burke both want to add size. Your not bumping guys like Hudler and Gaudreau. So you need to create turnover somewhere else if you want to change that dynamic.

That said, making this move now makes zero sense. The Flames can't get rid of Glencross, Stajan, and Raymond in the middle of the playoff run. Not unless they are bringing players back. Plus I agree that trading these guys that just had babies isn't in the Flames management DNA.

Who knows ... the last time we heard that the owners were willing to spend to the cap and pick up terrible contracts, oil wasn't $50/barrel. That's gonna put a big pinch on ownership's willingness to spend money and probably puts a big crimp in revenue.

If some other teams come calling for the vets, (Stajan, Raymond, Glencross) then by all means get what you can.

I'll be thrilled if a Berra-ish trade where the Flames get thrown an unexpected draft pick.

Just another example of the Toronto media not having a freakin clue about the Flames.

I wonder if they traded Raymond and Stajan if they would re-sign Glencross? He sure appeared to have a weight lifted off his shoulders tonight. Any chance they are talking extension again?
