Yeah, think so. They went on to speculate quickly, something about "money out, money in".
Should have been a new thread I suppose.

Maybe something was misinterpreted from source to Kypreos to live TV. I can see Treliving shopping those 3 guys, but it wouldn't be because of salary.

Yeah haven't been a fan of Raymond since his return. He brings the odd offensive boost, but not much else, and doesn't really fit the model of the team IMO.

Interesting.
The Flames have boatloads of cap room, some huge contracts would need to be incoming before cap space would be of much concern.
Richards trade back on the front burner?

Him and Phaneuf were the two names that came to mind. *shudder*

I think Calgary might be looking to move money out while some of these guys have some value.
Raymond is quickly looking like a 3 million dollar waiver bait. It might be a case of trying to cut bait while you still can.
Don't want to be left holding the bag when guys reach the "0" value point.
Maybe there is traction with Wizniewski?

Have been scouting Arizona heavily with Treliving himself watching them play last night.
Are we going to make a huge splash for OEK? Maybe Yandle?

The Flames could take on a contract like Kessel's without even moving out salary and could use the summer to shed contracts if they wish so I don't see why the team would be scrambling to remove salary at the deadline. Also Stajan's contract will not be an easy sell across the league.

Vermette?
Flames give Arizona some bodies who can play some minutes; helps fill out their lineup in exchange for Vermette and Yandle?

They have cap room, but I guess they might just not want to spend the money. But I agree that the trade deadline wouldn't be when you do that.

It's hard enough to work a rental player for assets deal at the deadline and if it was going to be player for player that deal should have been consummated earlier.

I agree with your thoughts. Don't doubt the deal would be difficult, but the opinions of moving Glencross for anything other than a pick is an abandonment of the rebuild is ridiculous.

When did Kypreos say Treliving was working hard to clear salary? This morning? How much room does he need? This is heading into crazy talk.
EDIT: I mean, the Flames are what? third lowest in the NHL for cap. What the heck is he wanting to bring in that requires more than ten million in cap?

I would love to get Kessel.
Perennial 30-goal scoring RW, and only turned 27 at the start of this season. He's got a big contract, but it's because of that contract that he shouldn't cost a king's ransom to acquire.
Fills a huge need for this team, and we've got the space. I also don't think he'd be the fall guy here like he is in Toronto, based on the fact we've already got Giordano, Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, and soon to be Bennett, for home-grown quality talent.

I am totally fine with the Flames going out and making a big splash. This team has proved they are ready to take the next step by competing every night. We have some money in the bank why not go and spend it upgrading. Prove to these guys that they are serious about winning now. The team has proved it by being in almost every game.
I'd be willing to trade any draft pick this year and prospect expect Bennett. I know this is not a popular idea here but we have a stocked shelf of prospects. Not all of them are going to play for us we need to use them as a currency. This is just my opinion.
Their will be plenty of money to spread around when the Seans and Sams and Johnnys need a raise. I am glad it's not Sutter or Feaster spending these assets though. I don't know how I feel and Brad doing it with such a small sample size. At least he is surrounded with lots of hockey minds to make a collective decision.

I'm hard on the guy (and Big Tuna by proxy) in the Toronto topic, but if Kessell bought in to the systame and culture of the Flames (and that's a pretty big if), he'd be a good addition by reason of being something other than the centrepiece of the team.
Can he work with Hartley and the rest of the staff? Who knows?
