It's not exactly rocket science. Generally, you are more likely to be successful if you out shoot the opposition.
Of course, not always. But generally. Which is why, if you must use one, Fenwick is better than corsi.

But I agree 100%.... Absolutely nothing advanced about it.

FWIW, the Oilers have dropped toward the bottom of the Corsi chart as well.

Soccer has had advanced player tracking for a good while now. It became rather obvious after a while that team possession isn't a very interesting stat. I suspect this will also become obvious in hockey after the initial excitement.

Stats are most interesting when trying to understand individual players and their roles on the team. Tracking linemates, icetime and zone starts tells you a lot about the way a player has been used by a team, which gives you a lot of added perspective to his other stats. To me those are much more advanced stats than corsi.
