Even if he doesn't want to play (which is debatable), I think he'd be better served by collecting the remaining $375K on his contract before retiring.

Didn't McGrattan and his wife (being a nutritionist, I believe) play a large part in helping Monahan get bigger over the summer and put on some muscle?

I know they are close. Like big brother and little brother close. Gotta suck for Sean. I guess that's how it goes in the NHL.

i'd rather have waived bollig, who adds very little to this team.

Good point. I guess what I was getting at would be that he could retire into a position with the Flames that would cover his remaining salary and keep him employed with the team going forward.

Actually I would agree that Bollig has been pretty bad and definitely underwhelming.

I imagine (if it's allowed under the CBA) he could work out a retirement payment or an office position, which the Flames would want to do in exchange for getting a freed up spot in the 50 pro contract limit.

He seems to be well liked and well respected by the players. If there's a role available for him and he's interested, I'd be all for him staying with the organization. We'll have to see how it plays out.

Bollig was an every day player for a very good Chicago team. I think the Flames hoped was that he could at least improve the fourth line if not grow into something a little more.

Hasn't happened. Hell, given McGrattan managed 4g 4a last year, I'm not sure Bollig hasn't made us a bit worse. It was worth a shot though, and while I think the team intended Bollig to be the succession plan for McGrattan, it seems that plan may involve Bollig eating popcorn more often than not.

Thoughts and prayers go out to any kid who decides to drop the gloves with him if he clears waivers and goes down.

Hate to see him go. One of the classiest out there at what he does. Hope a team out east picks him up. If not, I hope that he finds a role within this organization.
Doubt it... if McGrattan clears waivers it basically means their NHL careers are over too. Like you said, neither of them plays much already, and without the threat of McGrattan in the division, they're even more useless to their respective teams.

I think the Flames were taken in a bit by the 13/14 season. Bollig certainly didn't have any kind of indication he could play in the other two years with Chicago (18 and 25 games, no points). Pretty mediocre AHL numbers too.

It would be beyond gross to see his head sticking out of a Canucks or Oilers jersey.

Don't you have to go through regular waivers before you go through $125.00 waivers?

Huge fan of the guy on and off the ice. I think he has a role still....protection and a leader.

Has the guy really gotten that bad on the ice where we just can't play him anymore? Didn't seem bad at all to me for the type of player his is. Setoguchi was way more of a floater/liability than Grats was, at least to me.
