Yeah, I noticed that after. Just not as clean as Capgeek, but it's better than nothing.

war-on-ice.com is trying to pick up where capgeek left off. Interestingly, they are rebuilding from scratch as they don't want to simply lift capgeek's database and archives. They seem to feel it would not be cool to basically steal the content.

Building from scratch is noble but if the content is there, use it.

I tend to agree, but I think this also speaks to the respect the analytics community has for Matthew Wuest's work.

That, and capgeek.com seems to be completely gone now, so the option might not actually be there any more.

It seems to me, they should contact the agents. Is in the players interests to have contract values public. They could be a great source of "inside" information

Agreed, anything with hyphens is a pain in the ass to type.

Default Capgeek.com Permanently Ceases Operations

Question for those who used to use CapGeek often, what was so good about the site that's not on other sites like NHL Numbers?

Waivers Calculator

That was almost the sole reason I used Capgeek.

Armchair GM. You could drag and drop players to positions, demote or recall players, sign free agents, make trades (with % retention), buyout players, etc etc etc with realtime cap calculations as you went. You could then click a button to get a text version of your proposed line up that you could paste into a forum post.

The entire template of capgeek was extremely user friendly as well.

Depth chart, yearly UFA's/RFA's, could move players around and set up rosters to see if they fit under the cap.

It was the site I most frequently visited after CP (hockey-wise).

Not only cap hit of players, but salary broke down, bonuses and NMC/NTC information (ex: certain players have NTC for only a few years of their contract).

Just an all around good site, informative. I could spend time just looking at upcoming UFA RWers in 2017 for example.

Capgeek founder has passed away due to colon cancer:

Quote:
The former Metro Halifax sports reporter and CapGeek founder was always the one writing the stories, often shying away from having stories written about him.

Wuest died during the early morning hours Thursday at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, wife Melanie Patten by his side, following a two-and-a-half year battle with colon cancer.

Wow, two and a half years. I was afraid it was something like that since he shut it down so abruptly.

Heard that earlier. So brutal. Was my fear when I heard he shut the site down for personal reasons. His devotion to the sport is commendable. RIP.

A true warrior. Sincerest thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.

What he did for the world of hockey is tough to put into words.

Rest easy, Matthew.
