As much as this is a case of them trading the better player, it looks very tankish.

But Perron is not the type of player they need (they have lots os similar type wingers) and he clearly didn't want to be there.

The addition of guys like Fraser and Klinkhammer are actually steps in the right direction for this team.

Roy as well, along with sending down Draisaitl.

Not sure why Klinkhammer was included, they really should have started to work on their defense. But then again it's MacTavish.

Also, thoughts and prayers to Klinkhammer. From proud Stanley Cup championship team to bottom-dwelling tank jobbers.

Looking at what they gave up for Perron, I guess it wasn't that good of a trade.

They trade the 33rd pick in the 2014 draft + MPS

for

~27th pick in 2015 draft + Klinkhammer.

Interesting that MacTavish's moves didn't come until he was in a coaching position. Sure looks like he got better perspective on the room and decided to make some changes.

Wow, just what are the Penguin's brass drinking at the world juniors for them to get taken to the cleaners by the big MacT? What is Pittsburg thinking giving up that much? I would think a return for him would be a second, not a first and roster player!

I think it hilarious. Perron was one of the few guys who seemed to care in Edmonton. I suppose Ference is next?

It will backfire. The players now know that if they start producing, and the team starts winning, they will get shipped out of the tire fire. I fully expect the "non-core" guys to go on a tear, in rabid hopes of getting traded.

A little bit like the movie "Major League", NHL style...

I laugh at everyone thinking that the Oilers won this trade. Surely they could have done better than just a 2015 1st and Klinkhammer. This team doesn't have any good players, adding a pick won't change how atrocious their drafting has been.

A better trade would have been Beau Bennett and Dumoulin, they get a LW/RW who is capable of playing middle 6 minutes like Perron, and grab a defenseman prospect that is probably miles ahead better than their defenseman prospects, excluding Nurse.

I'm so looking forward to some dirty laundry being aired out by him. Pleeeease dont let me down Perron. You're getting out of Asscrack, AB....heading to a Stanley Cup contender, playing with some of the best players anywhere. Say something juicy for us!

good move for the oilers. at this stage, they have no other options but to build assets. Now the question is do they have the ability to turn these assets into useful peices on the roster? All history indicates NO.

i sure hope they go on a massive winning streak. 3 of the possible 4 points coming into 2015, come on coach Nelson!

I'd have to agree the return is pretty good for the oilers but it's not what they need. They need players ready to enter the line up not lottery tickets that may develope into something 4 years down the road. My guess is no one would give them a prospect, and any player they'd like to add to their lineup won't wave to go there. Oilers still suck and the league and players know it. The city is a last resort.

@DownGoesBrown: (David Perron sprints through airport.)

"Sir, your gate is that way..."

(Perron crashes through wall, sprints all the way to Pittsburgh.)

MacT saw McDavid and Eichel live a couple days ago, and it was love at first sight. No need to interview anyone else at this point.

Easiest GM job ever

They've been trying to trade Perron ever since he voiced his displeasure about the country club.

Personally I think Pit did fine here. Perron is a decent player who actually gives a crap, he got worse the longer he breathed in the fumes from the tire fire. With a little deprogramming and a chance to play with an actual NHL centre he should thrive in Pit.

To be fair, I doubt most GM's would interview McDavid either except to ask whether he wants a Bentley or a Rolls Royce to pick him up at the airport.
