From what I read a lot of these artifacts that we see them smashing are actually fakes that they make a great show of destroying, then they turn around and sell the real ones to private collectors for millions.

ISIS is the violent, psychopathic younger brother to any Bond villain.

I did not hear about that, but that is evil-genius type stuff.

Of all the nonsense you have ever spouted, this is absolutely the worst.

Seriously, you dug up something I wrote damn near 8 months ago that isn't really relevant to what's being discussed to take a shot at me? It's getting weirdly obsessive, man.

My apologies

To be fair, that post was a bit abrupt. I was more referring to the various U.S. policies and decisions that actually fed ISIS both ideologically and financially. There are a couple of really good documentaries that PBS put out about it. Well worth checking out. I think one is called "Losing Iraq," and the other is "The Rise of ISIS" or something. I think both of them are done by Frontline.

I'd say ISIS in it's present form is partly at least, a result of the Iraq invasion. If Sadam was still in power, I doubt that ISIS would be in Iraq.

Speaking about ISIS, it seems they are hell bent on doing whatever they can to pi$$ off any civilized state. They are trying to lure the West into a war by ruffling our feathers but really they aren't much of a threat to us as it stands.

I think ISIS was the inevitable consequence of Saudi Arabia's meddling. Since ISIS declared war on the Saudis, they've curtailed it back, but they were spending billions of dollars a year training militants. It was inevitable that these militants would find a weak spot somewhere and get a foothold.

There was a pre-established network of militants that existed before ISIS was set up. They were from all over the world, and when they saw the opportunity in Iraq/Syria, 1000s of fighters poured into the area. They then began recruiting locals. ISIS was not specific to Iraq or Syria and would have set up shop anywhere the opportunity provided.

But, yeah I'd agree with you about its "present form" being caused in a large part by the US invasion of Iraq.
