That link makes me feel dumb.

If that kind of drive even had a hint of working NASA or someone else would be putting a test satellite up as fast as they possibly could, it would be a HUGE thing. That that's not happening is enough to make it a long shot at being a real phenomenon vs. something else.

They should build a test satellite, get Elon Musk to put it in space, demonstrate it, get Nobel prize.

I knew a lot more about it a while back when the last go round of media coverage was going on, but that's all been replaced by cat videos.

This is from wikipedia but the test was run by ASA/JSC Advanced Propulsion Physics Laboratory (Eagleworks):

Quote:
ix months later, early 2015, Paul March from Eagleworks made new results public, claiming positive experimental force measurements with a torsional pendulum in a hard vacuum: about 50 ľN with 50 W of input power at 5.0×10−6 torr, and new null-thrust tests.[29] The new RF power amplifiers were said to be made for hard vacuum, but still fail rapidly due to internal corona discharges, with not enough funding to replace or upgrade them, so measurements are still scarce and need improvement before a new report can be published.[30]

Glenn Research Center offered to replicate the experiment in a hard vacuum when Eagleworks manage to reach 100 ľN of thrust, because the GRC thrust stand can only measure down to 50 ľN.[29]
I think you're right though Photon, if this is true, this an incredible discovery and you'd think that people would be rushing to test it.

Maybe the "Too good to be true" sentiment is making Nasa and the like hold off any major investment until more leg work is done?

I've been skeptical of any Mars Missions on grounds of the radiation problems:

http://www.space.com/24731-mars-radi...ity-rover.html

The Mars rover Curiosity has allowed us to finally calculate an average dose over the 180-day journey. It is approximately 300 mSv, the equivalent of 24 CAT scans. In just getting to Mars, an explorer would be exposed to more than 15 times an annual radiation limit for a worker in a nuclear power plant.

I heard that Trump is building a new hotel there. It's going to be beautiful, huge, and under budget.

Will it include a wall to keep the Mexican martians out?

He has to keep the Mexican Martians in to do housekeeping so he's undecided right now.
He's working on some new technology to keep the Mexican Martian housekeepers that stay from getting fat. His 10 year-old son, who is tremendous with cyber, is working on with some 400 pound basement hackers on the project.

Why does that make you skeptical? It's just one more challenge to overcome. While it will increase the payload weight, I don't know why they couldn't implement increased radiation shielding into their ships, structures and suits.

In a pinch they just borrow some lead gowns and thyroid shields form the local hospital

Love the Elon Musk spirit but terraforming Mars is nothing but a pipe dream until you figure out how to create a planet sized magnetic field that'll stop solar wind from stripping off any atmosphere you try to create.

That, and we can't even make something to control one gas, CO2, on Earth. Yet you want to create an entire atmosphere? Good luck with that.
