My husband has been instructed to purchase one or more of the following:
Heated shawl/blanket thingy
Pajamas - I need new ones, so if he's buying those, at least 4 pairs
Get my wedding rings sized
Aside from that, the only thing I usually ask for is a day trip to Banff with the entire family. I rarely need a lot of stuff, and I'd rather spend time with my crew.

One of my cousins wife has a minimum amount of 2K that he must spend on her every Christmas (she is super high maintenance). I remember one year, what she got wasnt up to her expecations and she made my cousin refund it and get something else. I think it was a piece of jewellery and she wanted it in 24 carrot.

Can't go wrong with (nice) jewellery.
I asked for a running/swimming watch with a built in heart rate monitor. And a clothes steamer. Exciting times.

I'd be totally lost as to where to begin....is there a starter kit...lol?

You'll look like a genius! lol
No starter kits per se, but you could choose a couple of bangles that would have a meaning to her then add based on style. My staff loves the line, so they're pretty awesome at helping out with guiding you to a selection.

Pandora all the way. Women love them, they're sexy and you can keep giving her new ones. If you have kids they can pick a charm each too.

Another good one in my experience is a custom calendar made from your photos. If you have a Mac you can create and order from iPhoto but I'm sure there are other ways to do it. It's not expensive - more of a second gift - but the personal touch is really popular

My wife suggested we not by each other anything this year - we don't have any kids and if we want something we buy it. Plus we are going to be with family this year so we will be around the nieces and nephews while they are opening presents which will be cool.
I got birthdays and valentine's day gifts kyboshed years ago, and now XMas this year.
We will probably buy each other gifts when we do XMas at home but this year will be stress free sans the drive home

Sounds like hell. She better be loaded herself or smoking hot.

I got my wife a flashy jersey with "Heidi" on the back even though that's not her name. My 3 friends told me she would hate it and I should get her some jewelry. I told them they were in the wrong bar.

I'm surprised at all the people saying jewellery. Maybe I'm just lucky with my wife, but we both view it as an incredible waste of money, not to mention it can be quite garish to wear. It's sort of a shallow want, imo. There are a lot more useful things you could buy with hard-earned money.
